Publisher's summary
History professor Robert Whittle believes the world is about to end, though his devoted wife Amanda and young daughter Lucinda don't share his opinion. Consumed by his depressing prophecy, Mr. Whittle is suddenly distracted by the alarmingly beautiful Penelope Andrews. Penelope enjoys the affections of her boyfriend, fellow student Marvin Greene, but it's apparent that Marvin is growing restless and contemplating other conquests.
One evening the Whittles decide to entertain their good friends the Blaneys, and it becomes apparent that Mr. Blaney, though happily married, is having fantasies about Amanda. Soon after, Penelope, realizing Marvin's affection is waning, develops a crush on Mr. Whittle. Meanwhile, Mr. Whittle's doomsday prediction spreads throughout the town, causing a great deal of unrest and invoking the ire of Amanda - and instigating a series of complicated relationships.
Nathan's Mr.Whittle and the Morning Star is a charming story of greener pastures, fantasies, and being careful what you dream of - because it just might come true.

Indoors are servants, meals, and furniture. There, too, is The Man of Wrath, her upright Teutonic husband, inspiring in Elizabeth a mixture of irritation, affection, and irreverence. But outside she can escape domestic routine, read favorite books, play with her three babies and garden to her heart's content. Through Elizabeth's eyes we watch the seasons, from May's "oasis of bird-cherries and greenery" to the time when "snow carpets her Pomeranian wilderness".

Story
A member of the landed gentry, with a seemingly guaranteed income from his estate in the country, Oblomov lives in Petersburg, uninterested in the business that provides his living and barely aware that the revenue is diminishing. Not that he leads a dissolute life of extravagance, balls and entertainment. Instead he is a dreamer, a sybarite, content above all to spend most of the day supine, in bed. The novel opens with Oblomov thus ensconced, attended only by his dirty, grumbling, indolent servant Zahar, who has looked after him since childhood, catering to his every need.
