About this listen

Mrs. Jeffries and Inspector Witherspoon should be checking off their Christmas present list, but instead they're listing murder suspects in this latest entry of the Victorian Mystery series.

Harriet Andover had no intention of dying young like her silly siblings had. She intended to outlive them and outdo them as she always had. But Harriet discovers that the best intentions can lead to murder when she is strangled inside her mansion with a house full of holiday guests.

As much as Inspector Witherspoon enjoys his job delivering justice, the last thing he wanted was a complicated murder case just a week before Christmas. He soon discovers that Harriet's own husband and grown stepchildren are not overcome with grief and neither are most of her friends. And to put the icing on the Christmas cookies, the room where Harriet's body was found was locked from the inside and she had the only key in her pocket.

Mrs. Jeffries and the household have no intention of letting their inspector down and learn that Harriet's sister may have died from foul play as well. As the clues mount, this dedicated band of merry sleuths will not rest until they've delivered a stocking full of coal to a crafty killer.

Loved it and the narration… kind of figured out the villain early in the book, but still greatly enjoyed the unraveling of the mystery!!! Lots of fun

This is another great story in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, very disappointed that the last 12 minutes of Chapter 11, the end of the story!) will not play. Very disappointing. I will delete and try downloading again. May have been a faulty download.

I’m almost done with the entire series & enjoy these easy cozies while doing chores/hobbies. Nothing stressful, just a tad bit more suspense as the culprit is revealed. As is common with most British narrators, U.S. characters are portrayed with a pronounced southern U.S. drawl—characters who are supposed to be from California or the upper east coast. I’ve discovered only one British narrator who actually does “American” well. Despite that small irritation, the stories themselves deliver the easygoing cozy we expect when choosing this genre, and are enjoyable.

I've enjoyed the series overall. I appreciate the author's variety in surprise and obvious suspects and story line. And there has a constant level of performance.
There was a small inconsistency in this book. First I've noticed in all the books, so really very good on the author. (Don't worry, no spoiler) Previously the inspector and Ruth had enjoyed discussing train engines at a ball. In this book, he seemed to forget all about trains in favor of Barnes.

Enjoy the series

I enjoyed every single book! Excellent story, excellent narration (both) and now I await the next volume. Highly recommend.

I never tire of Mrs Jeffries and The Inspector mysteries. And I can always rest assured that it will always be a last minute resolution.
Quite honestly I don’t think I’ve missed any of Brightwell’s books. Now, if you’l excuse me - on to the next one:

Another triumphant who donit by Emily Brightwell’s Inspector series

I always enjoy these books. The bad ones get caught and people with money and connections like Nivens are a thorn in one’s side.

Oh no. Nivens is back.

Mrs. Jeffries and her crew are always a favorite! Enjoy every book and can’t wait until the next.
Highly recommended and please keep them coming!

Wonderful story filled with suspense

I love the simplicity of the story and the continuity from book to book of the character development.. I do believe, however, that it is unnecessary to continually reiterate the team's quest for Justice.
There could be more plot development, instead. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
