About this listen

When her neighbor is shot and killed in his hunting blind, 66-year-old widow Gertie Johnson seizes the opportunity to move on with her life by investigating his death. Gertie is abetted (and hindered) by her grandson Little Donny, man-hungry best friend Cora Mae, and word-of-the-day challenger, Kitty. It doesn't help that Chester's death has been ruled an accident by the sheriff of this backwoods community in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Or that Sheriff Blaze Johnson happens to be Gertie's son.

Whether it's interrogating neighbors, spying, or impersonating the FBI - not to mention staying one step ahead of Blaze - Gertie will do whatever it takes to solve the case, even when the killer takes aim at her.

Cute and quirky

This little cozy mystery was a fun read. Gertie is a quirky, eccentric elderly lady who can't help herself getting in trouble. If you want just a fun quick listen, this a nice book to enjoy.

Just couldn't do it...

I had to stop listening. I live on a farm and am very familiar with rural life, but I felt this story line was just pushing it too far. I quit just a few chapters in to the book.

The Feisty main character has the best quality

that's is a silly yet semi entertaining book and I could have lived forever without it but since I purchased it I listened to it as it dragged on. It's narrator was my least favorite part i& it may have been a better experience had she not sounded like a quivering old woman at the "ripe old age of 66". Her situations, first person narration and family members often projected an aged, bumbling air head rather than the vibrant 66 year old lady she was. This fact bothered me as I felt the writer didn't have a true grasp on Senior Society where many people in their sixties today are still vibrant, working, and even raising grandchildren. so I can't wholeheartedly recommend this but it certainly is not the worst one I've ever purchased.
I don't think I would ever want to hear this narrator read anything again in the future.
