About this listen

Meet DI Hillary Greene, a policewoman struggling to save her career and catch criminals.

Flo Jenkins is found murdered in her armchair, a paperknife sticking out of her chest. The old woman was well liked and nothing seems to have been stolen from her home. And it was common knowledge that she only had weeks to live.

Why kill a dying woman? This is going to be one of the toughest cases yet for Hillary to solve.

Hillary also has to deal with a new colleague who has a terrible temper and a rocky past.

With no forensics, no leads, and only a drug-addict nephew as a suspect, will this be Hillary's first failure to solve a murder case?

The narrator was fine!

The narrator was one of the best I've heard since recorded books closed and I started audible. Penelope Keith is a favorite also. I liked the character development and the story, but I prefer not to hear descriptive violence to living brings. all in all I will read and recommend all the authors mysteries

Sneaky!

unputdownable, unpleasant-co-worker, crime-thriller, England, procedural, law-enforcement, small-town, secrets, suspense, friendship, office-politics, relationship-issues, relationships, murder-investigation, murder, rivalry*****

Incomprehensible.
The local murder of a terminally ill septuagenarian brings out all sorts of unlikely suspects. Meanwhile, forty-something DI Hillary Greene with her uncanny perception while questioning suspects is baffled by two ranking inspectors' infatuation with her person. Did I mention that she calls her venerable old VW "Puff The Tragic Wagon"?
Gemma Dawson is the voice actor who really brings even more credibility to the story.

I never guessed!

I am really enjoying this series. I am an English teacher that has embarked on the yearly summer reading binge, and I am so glad to discover this author and her series! The author does a great job creating realistic characters. The only thing that I thought was a little bit far fetched was DI Green's sudden realization about the murderer. There are plenty of foreshadowing for these characters in future books and I can't wait to see what happens next.
