About this listen

Imagine nine women meeting. Tea and cake are on the coffee table. They’ve come together to share their love of books. They are friends. They trust each other. It’s a happy gathering. What could be more harmless? Scratch the surface and look closer.

One is lonely, one is desperate and one of them is a killer.

When the body of a woman is discovered on a Cambridge common, DCI Barrett and DI Palmer are called to investigate. But the motive behind the crime isn’t clear...and it all leads back to a book club.

As the lies, volatile friendships and tension among the group rise to the surface, DCI Barrett and DI Palmer must work out the motive and track down a cold-blooded killer. But just when they think they are on the right track, a twist in the case throws them off course....

Way too many characters. I didn’t love any of them. A little too far fetched for me

Meh

I liked that the ending was a surprise. I usually figure them out. I like to be surprised.

The story is likable. There were a few too many characters and friendships and frenimies to follow, but that added some complexity. The ending was a bit weak

Good story but weak ending

I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see who the murderer was. It wasn’t gory. The attention to details was good. I liked the characters.

Edge of my seat

The story kept me wanting to listen more until I got to the end and then everything wasn't wrapped up. Without the very last little bit the story would have been fine but the last some things hanging. I appreciated that it wasn't full of sex and profanity and the murder wasn't graphic.

Interesting mystery, eh ending

Honestly a Wonderful story, just hard to follow with all the characters. I wonder if there could be like a character glossary? 😝 but otherwise, loved the book

Great

The narrator did a great job of portraying all of the various parts in the book. The storyline was really intriguing. I enjoyed reading it.

The performance was OUTSTANDING!

Way too many characters to remember specific information and details (about 15)
Weak story line. The murderer should have odd behaviors or language use to believe she/he was a killer. A very whiny and weak character is a kille? Nope, not buying e

It’s pleasant and cozy, but lacks characters you really care about. The narrator made it enjoyable though

Quick but not great
