Unsatisfying

Not great. The female characters are either nasty and over sensitive or stupid and silly. The story is predictable and the male hero is rather shallow. The narrator made the unlikeable female protagonist even more objectionable by hi snippy delivery of her dialogue. Very disappointing.

Good for what it is

I was looking for a light mystery that would fill time, which was exactly what happened here. The mystery itself was actually fairly decently plotted, and I appreciated the Victorian British setting. Its weak points are the characters, with the main male lead being almost too modern-day sensitive guy, and the two sisters being a stab at feminism, which though obviously well-intentioned didn't quite work out so well. The audio narrator had to work with the material he was given, so that the sisters' voices weren't the easiest to get used to. However, that having been said I have purchased and begun listening to the sequel.

Cosy Mystery

I enjoyed the narrator. However, I thought the murderer was much too easy to figure out.

Pretty good story.

I enjoyed the story. It was light and easy to follow. I look forward to seeing where the series goes.

Captivatingly performed. What a thrill ride.

What a compelling, artful performance of an intriguingly detailed story. I want more of this author and performer. Loved it!

In the cost catagory

I this story was pleasant enough to listen to. Certainly not a cliff hanger. I think that it is exceedingly hard for a male voice to replicate a woman character. I felt the narrator give it his best shot. But because of the tone she came across with less intelligence and insight than the story line implied that she had. I had to keep reminding myself that this was a horse and buggy based era and not to compare the female characters with the modern woman of today. This book was a good bet for a long trip or to listen to while doing house work. It was not dramatic enough to be distracting. And not unpleasant to listen to.

not a bell ringer

The cardboard two dimensional characters. premise was interesting but the characters just didn't mesh. I finished it but I won't get another one of his.

Weak all the way around, and sad to say it.

Unfortunately just quite weak. I really wanted to enjoy this and am looking for great regency mysteries but this is just not it.

Nasty Heroine

The supposed "heroine" is a harpie whom I hope never to encounter in another book.
