About this listen

A remote island in the South Pacific plays host to a dozen strangers. One of them is a murderer.

An advertisement in a newspaper brings a disparate group of people to a tropical paradise. They will live together for a year, work and build a community, and film everything that happens for a documentary that will only see the light of day at the end of the trip. Almost at once, things begin to go wrong. They are meant to be strangers, but some of them have met before. They are meant to receive regular visits by the company funding the documentary, but nobody ever comes. And their only link with the outside world - a small portable radio transmitter - is incapable of transmitting anything....

Good mystery with picturesque setting

This book was pretty good. It starts off as a sort of "Survivor" show with ten people being brought to an island to live together and survive for a year. Things are fishy, though, when many of the people recognize connections between themselves, when everyone was supposed to be strangers. People begin dying, which means one of them is the killer. I listened to the Audible audio version, but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read it rather than listened to it. I didn't much care for the narrator's voice, and I did not care for her voice chosen for the Canadian, which sounded more like a "California Valley" or "Surfer" accent. I've never known a Canadian that sounded like her interpretation, and it sounded annoying and forced. To be fair, I don't know how much of that was the writer and how much was the narrator. Other than that, there are good twists and turns, plenty of mystery and suspense, and if you like the genre, especially if it takes place on a beautiful island, this book might be up your alley.

Suspenseful book

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book, very suspenseful. The characters and plot was well developed. Ten people on an Island who are suppose to be strangers, living on their own for a year. Quickly things start going wrong, and the first murder occurs. It has to be someone on the Island, one of them.

I did not care for the narrator, I found her accent hard to listen to. Took me a long time to get use to it. I think I would have liked to read this book better than listening to this audio book. Overall I enjoyed this novel.

Great who-dun-it mystery!

Any additional comments?

This book sets on a desert island, where 10 people are chosen to build their own community over a years time. Everything is not what it seems like and soon they'll realize that they are part of a major setup and that they are all alone on the island. One by one they start dying and they only have themselves to suspect. Who can they trust? Who is the murderer?

I enjoyed the story a lot and there were no boring moments. This is a very good who-dun-it mystery in Agatha Christie style. The story is well-written and the plot is well thought out.

I also enjoyed the narrator Danielle Cohen a lot. I love a British narrator, who can change voices and accents, so I know who's talking. The narrator must make me feel like I'm watching a movie and she was spot on. I'll defenitely listen to more of this author and narrator.

*This book was gifted to me by the author, in exchange for an honest review - thanks a lot!*

Too far out of realm of believably

At first it was hard to keep the characters straight.
Once I did it was easier to figure out the roles each person played.
What was hard to believe was setting up an elaborate ruse to murder one person.

I’m glad I didn’t have to buy this book.

Basic story

Story was sort of a basic thriller and predictable. Good for driving though. Okay storyline

predictable

the narrator voices one character like john wayne from Australia...hard to finish. I had the killer figured out on the 4th chapter.

Language

The heavy British accent made the recitation so difficult to understand and the story so difficult to follow that it deleted the book after the second chapter.
