About this listen

Maggie Crozat, proprietor of a historic Cajun Country B&B, prefers to let the good times roll. But hard times rock her hostelry when a new cell phone app makes it easy for locals to rent their spare rooms to tourists. With October-and Halloween-approaching, she conjures up a witch-crafty marketing scheme to draw visitors to Pelican, Louisiana.

Five local plantation B&Bs host "Pelican's Spooky Past" packages, featuring regional crafts, unique menus, and a pet costume parade. Topping it off, the derelict Dupois cemetery is the suitably sepulchral setting for the spine-chilling play Resurrection of a Spirit. But all the witchcraft has inevitably conjured something: her B&B guests are being terrified out of town by sightings of the legendary rougarou, a cross between a werewolf and vampire.

When, in the Dupois cemetery, someone costumed as a rougarou stumbles onstage during the play-and promptly gives up the ghost, the rougarou mask having been poisoned with strychnine, Maggie is on the case. But as more murders stack up, Maggie fears that Pelican's spooky past has nothing on its bloodcurdling present.

Favorite so far

This is my favorite book in the series so far. While still a basic cozy mystery, the plot was better. I would not want to be an enemy of the family or someone causing them trouble as they all seem to die. Characters are well developed. Although this is a series, each of the books can be read as a stand-alone.

Great series

Great plots. Clean language and enough romance to make you identify with each heroine. Love the setting.

Splendid Spooky Cozy

I love this series and I'm always excited to hang out with Cajun Country buddies. I saved this one for spooky season since it had Halloween vibes. I love a good cozy mystery. This one did not disappoint!!

Too much French

There were so many French names and places and the narrator spoke them with such a pronounced French accent, that I was unable keep the characters straight - due to their names all sounding the same.
Otherwise I loved the story, as I have all the books in the series.

Murder in the Bayou Boneyard

I love this "cozy" mystery set on the Bayou. Lots if twists and turns the ending, results, come clear Plus, there is the added bonus of amazing recipes at the end of the book! One I use to make with my Grandmother when I was a child, so glad to be able to get that one! ❤

Wonderful Cozy Halloween Themed Mystery

Anything Ms. Ellen Byron ends up being a fun read all around.

I listened to the Audible version of this book, and really enjoyed the narrator Amy Melissa Bentley!!!

This is the first book in the series that I have read, and now I want to start at the beginning.

The characters are engaging and quite alive. Once again I feel like I just came back from NOLA(New Orleans, LA). I say "again" because I have read the other series by Ms. Byron with a NOLA location.

The humor in this book is so much fun to read and laugh out loud.

The plot is complicated by many surprises and intrigue, but in the end everything is revealed and tied up well. I did not guess who the murderer was, but it made sense, and the clues were right there in front of me.

I highly recommend this cozy mystery with a Halloween theme, idea for October reading!

Love this series, hoping for more

As I finish the last book in the series as it stands right now, I’m writing this review to recommend every single book from book one onward. I enjoyed them all, even when the narrator changed. Each one of the mysteries was well-thought-out, lots of little side stories to make it really interesting, and I loved all the characters and their development. I really hope that there will be more to come.
