About this listen

Meet DI Hillary Greene, a policewoman struggling to save her career and catch criminals.

Edward Philpott is found bludgeoned to death with his own spade in his beautiful garden. He lived with his daughter Rachel and his two grandchildren.

Hillary's only lead is a rival from the village flower show who used to argue with the victim about the size of their vegetables. But what dark secrets from the past and present does this village hold?

Hillary has returned to work after the slaying of her boss and is desperate to track down his murderer. His pregnant widow is even more determined to get revenge, but will she go too far?

Can Hillary cope with two complex investigations full of extreme emotions, one of which is very close to home?

Each one gets better

in most series the basic premises start to wear thin, but this one gets better.

Wonderful Series

This is the 9th book in this series. They just keep getting better. The first book was so, so but I got through it and kept on. I am so glad I did. This was one of the best.

Plot twists!

Hillary has had an impeccable career with a truly impressive solution record but is suffering the mind crushing grief known to those of us who have weathered the sudden death of a loved one at close range. She goes back to work but can't quite feel anything. Add in that the widow of her best friend is pregnant and unreasonable about finding and dealing with the man who assassinated the DCI beloved by all in his department. The civilian murder case come in just as Hillary returns and is just baffling, but the team manages to get it all together despite all odds.
Gemma Dawson is the voice actor who really brings even more credibility to the story.

Good story

The characters and plot lines are developed well and complex. These are not cozy mysteries and yet I am still drawn to them for escape.
