About this listen

Autumn has come to Cedar County. It's harvest time. The trees and vines in the orchards and vineyards are heavy with ripening fruit. For the tourists flocking to the tasting rooms of the region's vineyards, the landscapes and seascapes provide an elaborate tapestry of rich colors and textures.

However, there is one discordant note in this pastoral splendor: The crumpled body of an international wine maven has been discovered in a steeply terraced vineyard of merlot grapes. As Sheriff Ray Elkins quickly discovers, the roots of this crime run from the legendary chateaus of Burgundy to the exclusive watering holes of Chinese billionaires.

This is the first book that I have read by Aaron Stander. The storyline is amazing! So many characters with some amazing back stories! Makes you think a lot! He makes you a part of the entire backdrop from the ocean to the wine farms. It was almost impossible to figure out the murderer. So many possibilities! I want to read more of his books for sure! Jeremy Vore is an outstanding narrator! His voice brings you in to everything going on! I would highly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed this installment of the Sheriff's adventures. I think it's one of Stander's best efforts to date, capturing a good portion of the flavor of the northern Michigan winter country while continuing the evolution of Ray's relationships with the characters in Cedar county, especially the women in his life. I found the narration a touch stilted, but it didn't detract from the experience and I'm looking forward to the next installments.
