Publisher's summary

Some family secrets shouldn't stay buried....

Music professor Gus LeGarde and his wife, Camille, are looking forward to a relaxing vacation at Paines Creek Beach on beautiful Cape Cod. But Gus barely has a chance to feel the sand between his toes before a near-miss car accident drags him right into the middle of a local family feud - and a centuries-old mystery that's begging to be solved.

As Gus is drawn further into the conflict between the Cooks and the McNabbs - two families with a grudge going all the way back to colonial times - he and Camille keep uncovering more questions than answers. Where is the long-lost Cook family treasure? What's really wrong with Beckett, the McNabb-side member who's the father of young Jane Cook's son? And who's telling the truth about Beckett and Jane's clandestine relationship: Jane's grandfather, surly patriarch Albert Cook; or Beckett's slightly odd parents?

Before long, mounting tension gives way to true danger as people start vanishing. And in the middle of a fast-brewing hurricane, Gus discovers the real secret at the heart of the feud: someone who will stop at nothing to make sure their side wins. Including murder.

Packed with shocking twists, exciting action, and fascinating tales of family lore and pirate treasure, Murder on the Brewster Flats is the first LeGarde Mysteries crossover novel with award-winning author Aaron Paul Lazar's popular Paines Creek Beach series. Don't miss this installment!

Greatly enjoyed this book

This book truly stands alone. I have not read any other books by Aaron Paul Lazar. If this is your first look at the series there is no need to read the others first. After listening to this book, I will have to look for more books written by this author.
The characters were well developed and very interesting people. The story line is well written. The vacation turns into a mystery for Gus and Camille. I really enjoyed this story tremendously!

The narrator, Pete Milan did a great job. This story was so easy to listen to thanks to his narration.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

a nice, relaxing vacation on Cape Cod...

A nice relaxing vacation on Cape Cod...Ummm NO! Gus and his wife, Camille, have been looking forward to a much needed vacation in Paines Creek Beach, Cape Cod. The music professor has a penchant for solving mysteries but this time he plans to do nothing but relax. Except, fate doesn't seem to have gotten that memo and, after a near-miss car accident, and saving the young driver, Gus is reeled in to solve a mystery! Lost treasure, centuries old family feud, hurricane and murder all lead to a very busy vacation. Great HEA and great job by the 'new-to-me' narrator. Now I have to catch up on the earlier mysteries!!

You can't judge a book by its cover!

People aren't always what they seem to be; some even diabolical!

The characters are well-developed and believable. Can't help rooting for them to find the treasure.

Pete Milan does a great job narrating.

Poor Max!

I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have the other Legarde mysteries. I remember in earlier book were Max was injured, Mr. Lazar stating he would never kill off a main character. Thus he saved Max in that novel! I wonder why he changed for this book. I also didn't enjoy the Cape Cod characters all that much. I think if I had read those novels, maybe I would have had a better understanding of these characters. The narrator was ok, not the best. He made the book a bit boring.

Great storyline

I enjoyed listening to this book and am now interested in checking out the other books in this series. Sounds like these characters have exciting lives! I was gifted this book in exchange for a fair review.

Different

I loved Gus the main character in this book. I especially liked his sense of humor. This for me was what made me listen to the audiobook.
I have not listened too or read any of this authors book but I like mysteries so I gave it a go.

The narrator I did not like to begin with but as the story progressed I realized he suited the main character really well. I could imagine him in my head and the way he acted. He really bought the characters out and had me immersed in the book.

The story is not a murder mystery but there is a sort of mystery to do with lost treasure. One thing leads to another and it becomes more than just gold that was stolen a long time ago. There is a surprise that I was not expecting at all.

My only negative is that I found some parts, especially after the incident, drag for me, but other then this it is not a bad book.

The series can be read or listened to in any order since they are stand alone.

There is no sexual content or profanity but there is some violence.

Strictly a beach book

Enjoyed the setting and the main character is likable. The plot was rather predictable, but it worked just fine as a light beach read/listen. The narrator is excellent.

excellent

My first time listening to this author and he is fantastic. A great story teller with twists and intrigue. The suspense had me on edge in a good way. This was a wonderful first experience with this author and definitely not my last. Kudos sir!!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.
