About this listen

"Landon Beach's debut novel The Wreck is a modern-day Treasure Island that keeps the reader turning pages." (Steve Alten, New York Times and international best-selling author of The Meg and The Loch)

Nate and Brooke Martin arrive at their summer cottage along the rapidly gentrifying Great Lakes shoreline. The beach is warm, the water is cool, and the sea breeze is blissful - perfect conditions for rekindling their strained relationship.

However, on a morning stroll along the beach, Nate finds an unusual gold coin half-buried in the sand. Where did it come from? Are there more?

Teaming up with reclusive ex-Coast Guard officer and Great Lakes master of the deep Abner Hutch, Nate dives for clues to the treasure's origins. But when word leaks that there may be a fortune hidden under the waves, they find themselves hunted by mega-rich residents up the coast who are willing to do anything to advance their extravagant lifestyles.

Will the Martins change their family's fortunes, or will the summer vacation end in a tragedy?

Put on some sunscreen, unfold a beach chair, and get ready to discover The Wreck.

Good book, a little slow at times. Very very detail oriented , sometimes a little too much detail about inane tasks. Anyway , the story is about finding treasure, hiding it to keep it safe only to discover it wasn’t hidden quite as well as it should have been. People the protagonist thought were friends really weren’t and the facade they show their neighbors is just that with not very good intentions underneath. Murder, betrayal and strong friendship bring this book to an explosive ending.
Scott Brick does an outstanding job narrating.

Scott Brick makes this book shine!

I grew up on the shore of Lake Michigan so stories about the Great Lakes get my attention. There is a lot that is implausible in the story but I engaged my willful suspension of disbelief and enjoyed the experience. Especially enjoyed the descriptive writing about Lake Huron. Scott Brick could read the phone book and make it interesting. Worth your credit.

Great Lakes Mystery

The premise of the story is set up well, and it looks like we're in for a good ole fashioned treasure hunt. I found the history of shipping on Lake Huron, and the back story of the gold, to be interesting, but the story falls apart while trying to create a Hollywood race to the treasure. The biggest issue are the antagonists. Hours are spent setting up the back story on the protagonists while the bad guys are given just a few shallow minutes, leaving a mishmash group of baddies and a disjointed finish. The whole story wraps up abruptly with less than a Scooby Doo ending.

Didn't stick the landing

loved the story until I got to the end. then the bow was tied too neatly and quickly. it lost its appeal for me. would I give the author another try? Yes, yes I will.

I enjoyed the book, twists and turns. It wrapped up in a hurry though.

The book spent a long time setting up the action the in less than 5 minute the ending was told.
