Landon Beach
About this listen
"Landon Beach's debut novel The Wreck is a modern-day Treasure Island that keeps the reader turning pages." (Steve Alten, New York Times and international best-selling author of The Meg and The Loch)
Nate and Brooke Martin arrive at their summer cottage along the rapidly gentrifying Great Lakes shoreline. The beach is warm, the water is cool, and the sea breeze is blissful - perfect conditions for rekindling their strained relationship.
However, on a morning stroll along the beach, Nate finds an unusual gold coin half-buried in the sand. Where did it come from? Are there more?
Teaming up with reclusive ex-Coast Guard officer and Great Lakes master of the deep Abner Hutch, Nate dives for clues to the treasure's origins. But when word leaks that there may be a fortune hidden under the waves, they find themselves hunted by mega-rich residents up the coast who are willing to do anything to advance their extravagant lifestyles.
Will the Martins change their family's fortunes, or will the summer vacation end in a tragedy?
Put on some sunscreen, unfold a beach chair, and get ready to discover The Wreck.

Story
By the time playwright and actor Shawn Frost had won two Tony Awards by his late 20s, he was seen as a theater prodigy—a meteoric rise that the performing arts community had not witnessed in almost a hundred years. His work? Shakespearean in scope, character, and popularity—boundless and beautiful. His own character? Flawed. And in a place like New York City, where failings get magnified, Shawn Frost finds that, even from the heights of artistic sublimity, no one is insulated from the demons that have caused the best of entertainers to fall from grace.

Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a town where nearly everyone hunts and the game warden—especially one like Joe who won't take bribes or look the other way—is far from popular. When he finds a local hunting outfitter dead, splayed out on the woodpile behind his state-owned home, he takes it personally. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

So after her father falls ill, 12-year-old Julie Sims must take over and lead two of his clients on a dive miles off the coast of Alabama while her father stays behind in the boat. When the clients, a reckless boy Julie's age and his equally foolhardy father, disregard Julie's instructions during the dive, she quickly realizes she's in over her head. And once she surfaces, things only get worse: One of the clients is in serious condition, and their dive boat has vanished.

Step into a world which is both magically fictitious and shockingly real, to follow the lives of Tamsin, Ellie, Arun, and Charlie; a refugee, native, occupier, and economic migrant. Watch them grow up during a halcyon past, an everyday present, and a dystopian future. And be prepared to be amazed. Inspired by the occupations of Palestine, Kurdistan, and Tibet, and by the corporate occupation of the west, Occupied is a haunting glance into a society which is too familiar for comfort. a lot of foreplay with a very short climax
loved the narrator. that's something I struggle with in audiobooks- finding a good one. The story line was interesting on the husband's end with the coin but felt the story was very 50s with the wife just sunbathing and minding her own while her husband is off playing with his old war friend. Having said that I did like Hutch. There were some pointlessly dramatic parts of the book..like one scene where a character that barely seems to matter is detailed as banging a high schooler who cleans his house for the summer and some other cliche moments like that. The climax to me felt like..things were finally happening with this other group Beach was describing throughout the book and then all of a sudden it was the end...but that might just be my viewpoint and others may think differently. overall I'd say it's a decent read..just a few things to be aware of.

new favorite author
Scott brick did a wonderful job assusual.
Good fast paced story. minimal rude language and no explicit sex. Not to say no sex but pretty clean.
