About this listen

The Brotherhood of the Guardians has existed for thousands of years to serve a single purpose: the protection of Talents, the mortal descendants of the original nine Muses.

Daniel Lyoncourt, 21, has trained his entire life to join the Guardians. Daniel is prepared to risk his life in order to keep his Talent safe, but when he's assigned to 19-year-old Anna Saint-James, he discovers that his life isn't the only thing he could lose. Anna has no idea how special she is and knows nothing about her abilities. He must teach her to control her gifts, keep her safe, and hope that he can find a place in her life as something more than just her bodyguard.

All power comes at a price. Like all Talents, Anna must one day make a choice: lose all of her powers or ascend to a higher plane, leaving behind everyone she loves.

Critic reviews

"Simply put, I loved this book, from start to finish. I loved the characters, the story, the action, the sarcasm, the obscure references to television shows and movies of my youth. There were awwww moments, there were angry moments, and there were moments that were truly laugh out loud. It was a coming-of-age story, a love story, an action-packed roller coaster wrapped up in a neat little package. " (Michele, Book Geeks Unite)

"I wasn’t ready for how fast this book sucked me into its gravitational pull. From page one I was hooked. The author seamlessly draws you into a world where being a Muse can be dangerous. I really enjoyed the storyline and plot of this YA novel; It was different than most of the young adult books out there. I’ve read lots of YA novels and this is one of the best I have read in a long time." (Jessica, Nerd Girl Official)

Enjoyed the whole book!

Listened to this story on Audible. The narrator did a great job. She even has a decent male voice. An enjoyable listen!

Loved this! The characters are intelligent and use common sense! They are only 19 for Anna and 21 for Daniel, but both characters are mature and are quick thinkers. Anna and Daniel are both great characters that are easy to root for. Plus, the connection they have is adorable! The romance was heart-touching and I just loved the whole thing! Love how protective Daniel is; I suppose that's his job as her Guardian, but it's more than that. The whole premise for this story is cool with the scenario with the Talents and their Guardian protectors; kept me engaged and entertained for the whole story. Good action keeps the story fun too. This is a full story that doesn't end in a cliffhanger, but I see there's a book 2, so I'm looking forward to checking that out!

Interesting concept excellent narration.

This book has a very interesting concept. I’ve always enjoyed modern fantasy, and this had me wondering about the mechanics of the world from the first chapter.

The narration is fantastic. I could really feel the difference in the many characters, and the emotions came through beautifully.

The writing was clunky in spots, but the narration and concept more than made up for that.

Great YA fiction!

Excellent Paranormal, Enjoyed it Immensely

I received this audiobook free, as an Audiobook Obsession reviewer, for an honest review. I really loved this story. The characters had depth, the story was thrilling, and the young love was the cutest. This is my first book by this author and this narrator. Was very please. It took me a minute to understand what was going on, but it didn't take too long to get vested in the story and the characters. The author was great and the narrator did an excellent job with the characters, their personalities and conveying the story. Couldn't stop listening. So looking forward to the next book.

Mythology and romance

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I really love when there is any kind of mythology in a book. I find it fascinating. This was an interesting premise with Talents and Guardians. The world is so intricate and the characters were well rounded and felt very real. I really liked the detail Erin McFadden put into this book. I look forward to more from this author.

In love all over again!

*I was given an Audible credit to honestly review this audiobook*

Okay, so I read this book quite a while back, and absolutely loved it. Knowing my obsession with audio books, the author approached me when this one was released in said format. I was both excited and skeptical. After all, once I've read a book myself, I have my own ideas of what characters would sound like, but I'm not one to pass up a free audio! So, I eagerly accepted.

I should not have been nervous. This narrator brought the book to a whole new level of beauty for me! She did very well, and I was not disappointed in the slightest!! She really brought these characters that I love to life, and I highly reccomend it to anyone who loves paranormal/mythical/lore books with a good dash of romance!

5 Platypires!

A Talented Muse

This was a fun and engaging fantasy novel with an excellent reader. This book feels geared towards young adults and while action packed and full of entertaining characters that the reader does an great job bringing to life and individualizing, the description of the book is essentially all the mythology you learn throughout the entire novel and leaves you with a lot of questions that never get answered (e.g. There are Guardians that protect Talents, the mortal descendants of Muses, that apparently unnamed people are always trying to kill?!). That said, I still might listen to the next book in the series, just to see what happens, especially if done by the same reader.

Interesting Take on the Muse Myth

Muse is a fabulous book which focuses on Anna (muse) and Daniel (her protector). I love these characters! Anna is so sweet, smart, and sooooo full of sass! Daniel is exactly what a protector should be: strong, smart, and stubborn. But so quickly things change from 2 people who work together and who both have a lot of misconceptions about each other to 2 people who care about each other and will fight for each other.

This story is amazing, and I would definitely recommend it! Leanna Abbott was great as a narrator! Her male voice was a little weird, but overall she was a fabulous narrator!

I really enjoyed this story!

This interesting story was well written and had likeable characters I could relate to. The narrators did a wonderful job telling this story. It's also a stand alone, which is great if you don't like cliff hangers. I look forward to reading more from this author. #audiobookobsessionreviewer

An easy read! Plenty of action and a unique genre!

I loved this book from start to finish! It reads very well, and I've listened through three times already as I work. :) It is fast paced and quick moving, no slogging through chapter after chapter of excruciating details that quickly slip the mind due to sheer volume. The author, Erin, brings you on a whirlwind journey of change. The speed of events gives you a realistic perspective of what it must be like to have your world turned upside down from one day to the next for our protagonists. The narrator, Lianna, gives a spectacular performance, exerpertly articulating a wide range of vocals and attitudes that give each character the vibrancy they deserve. I would have loved the story to have been longer, so I could spend more time submerged in this fantasy world hidden in plain site!
