About this listen

In the middle of a crowded bar in our small Alaskan town, my estranged wife snuggles up to me as if we’re still a happy couple.

Don’t get me wrong, we were a happy couple - before she walked out on me a year ago. We were the high school sweethearts everyone thought were destined to be together forever. We thought so, too, which is why we married shortly after graduation.

We had a good marriage. Until she left me without any real explanation. Now, she’s back - and this is the real kicker - she has amnesia and thinks I’m still her husband. Technically I am, although the divorce papers are sitting at the lawyer’s office. She’s desperate to remember her life in Sunrise Bay, but I only want to find out why she left me. Once we conjure that memory up, it’s sayonara because there’s no second chances here. But as you probably already figured out, things didn’t go quite as I planned.

Prepare for a book hangover

So, I found out about a thing today. The long awaited 2nd book in Piper Rayne's series, The Greene Family, has already been released on Audible even though the actual book doesn't release until Tuesday, April 6. That's right, you can get My Almost Ex on Audible right now!

I listened to it today while I got some stuff done around the house. It is narrated by the incredible Jacob Morgan and Virginia Rose. I love Jacob Morgan's narrations and this one did not disappoint. These two were great together,

This book is Adam and Lucy's story. If you read the first book of the series, My Beautiful Neighbor, you've gotten a glimpse into Adam and Lucy's story. These two were middle school sweethearts. They've had it bad for each other since they were 13. They married young and seemed to have one of those special loves until the day that Lucy, out of the blue, tells Adam that she is leaving him because she isn't happy. She won't talk to him about it. She just leaves. Adam spends the next year despondent and just a shell of himself. After a year, he finally decides to start dating again and he and his date are with his family at the celebration the town has before the tourists return for the season. A hush falls over the crowd when Lucy comes in. She acts like nothing has happened between her and Adam.

I wondered how in the world these two authors were going to finagle this story in a way that the readers could forgive Lucy for whatever she had done. In my mind I have been running through scenarios of how it could work. I came up with nada, nothing, a big goose egg, zip... Honestly, that was probably the biggest reason I was waiting on pins and needles for this book. That and, let's face it, these two authors write fantastic stories. This one did not disappoint. Even when I found out the pretense of the story, I still couldn't imagine being ok with Lucy. But Piper Rayne worked their mojo and hit this one out of the park.

Take my advice; take a nap on Monday and be ready to start reading when the book hits your Kindle at midnight Tuesday. Plan on having one heck of a book hangover because you're going to want to read this one straight through. I'd give this book a solid 5 stars!!

Just as good as the first book

Having read the first book in this latest series from Piper Rayne I couldn’t wait to be back with the Greene family in Sunrise Bay, Alaska. This time Adam and Lucy and their second chance at love story is front and centre and what a story it was.

Adam was left reeling when Lucy up and left him over a year ago as he thought they were happy. Now Lucy is back and it appears she has amnesia and thinks that they are happily married. Poor Adam, he is just starting to come out of the darkness that her leaving left him in and now here she is back again as if nothing has happened.

Jacob Morgan and Virginia Rose did a wonderful job expressing the emotions and pain that Adam and Lucy go through in this book. Their narration was heart warning and got to me on a number of levels as the story progressed.

Lucy is desperate to regain her memories of life in Sunrise Bay and I had a hard time putting this one down as I had to know what had happened. There were times that my heart almost broke for both Adam and Lucy and although there was humour their was a great deal of emotion as well.
The Greene’s are a blended family and I loved how much interaction there was between them all, regardless of whether they are full, half or step siblings this family has each others back.
The story was fast paced, witty and engaging and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Great story

Another great story in the Greene Family series by Piper Rayne and it was wonderfully narrated by Jacob Morgan and Virginia Rose. They depicted the various emotions the characters were experiencing in the scenes and brought this story to life.

Lovely

I knew very early on what they couldn’t figure out, but that didn’t take away anything from the book for me. I loved it! I did read the first book in this series first, which I liked - but I LOVED this one. I couldn’t get enough of it. I tried to not finish it in two days, but I just couldn’t stop listening. If I didn’t start so late at night on day one - it would have been a one day listen. I just needed to know! The epilogue was not enough though .... will need to continue the series apparently to get more. That’s ok - the next one sounds great! Wonder when that will be released!

Sweet second chance romance

Adam is a party with his family and friends when, out of nowhere, his estranged wife, who he hasn’t seen in a year comes up to him as if they were still married, like he hadn’t spent the past year in hell, trying to understand why she just simply packed up and left him. The thing is… Lucy has amnesia. She feel of a horse three months before and has basic memories of her life before the accident, but she has no idea why she left Adam.

So, Lucy, along with her mother, came back to this little Alaskan town where she grew up and lived all her life in the hopes that the familiar faces and places will jolt her memories back. There is an animosity between Lucy’s mother and Adam and his family and Lucy senses her mother is hiding something from her.

There are flashback chapters throughout the book, where you see Lucy and Adam falling in love as teens and then finally getting married. You see how sweet and in love they were, which makes it a little mystery to why the heck Lucy abruptly left.

Adam, who also wants to know why she left him, decides to help and, as it is indeed a romance novel, they “fall back in love”

It’s a sweet book about second chances, about loving someone so much that you will sacrifice yourself for their happiness. You know that, in the end, the reason why Lucy left will probably be a noble one.

It is book 2 in a series by this author duo, but you can definitely read it as a standalone. However, the secondary characters are so interesting and the family dynamics make you want to learn more about The Greenes. The book ends with a hook for the new one, definitely! (Nope, not a cliffhanger, just a hint of the new story to come!)

A book narrated by Jacob Morgan and Virginia Rose is a shoo in for a nice time!

Possible triggers: parental betrayal, infertility

Second chance/ Amnesia

Adam and Lucy were childhood sweethearts and married right after high school. Lucy left Adam unexpectedly last year and Adam has been struggling with not knowing why. Suddenly, Lucy shows up and thinks they are still happily married. Her mother explains to Adam that Lucy had an accident a few months ago and she doesn't remember much. Adam decides that he'll help Lucy to see if she remembers more. one thing is certain that they both love each other. Can they get over the fact that she might not remember? I loved this story and the narration of Jacob Morgan and Virginia Rose. I'm looking forward to the next Greene Family book.

Super sweet enjoyable listen..

This was a different sort of romance. I kept trying to figure it out and could not until the very end, which is perfect for me because I usually figure things out, lol. I really enjoyed this book. I am not a fan of Virginia Rose as a narrator, however Jacob Morgan made up for it. If your thinking about this book and looking for something genuinely sweet with low drama but will keep you interested get this book, you will like it.
