About this listen

Breaking news: The bad boy of baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped.

Okay, that might not be the headline in the newspaper this morning, but it's the reality of my current situation. It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She’d gotten a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I've known the girl since I was five, so I figured there wouldn't be any harm in having her stay at my place for a while.

Ha! Total disaster.

Now instead of going out every night with my teammates, I'm couch surfing and sketching endless portraits of my best friend...but that's the least of my concerns. The disaster, you ask? I'm rapidly falling head-over-cleats in love with my best friend, my roommate, and my number one fan.

And she has no idea....

Heart wrenching romance

So, the prologue sets the tone for the book right off the bat. You are introduced to this ying/Yang couple and a glimpse of demise….. then the story begins. I just love this couple. His insecurities start to weigh pretty heavily about 1/3 in and they just get heavier and heavier. 2/3 of the way through I was clutching my chest and so upset: gutted. The guys friends kicked his butt until he got his crap together and went after his life. This book is going on my favorites.

Love this one!!

Love the story! Not a huge fan of the narration. Both male and female voices are lovely but don’t like them narrating each other. Otherwise love the story!

Maddox is a keeper…

Kinsley is … not. I have to agree with other reviewers, when they write about Kinsley’s irritating character. I could put up with a lot of what she did, which was rude IMO, but she just got on my nerves towards the end. For someone who is all “love makes the world go round”, she can hold a grudge like no other.

Male narrators impersonation of Kinsley didn’t help my irritation with her character either.

Overall I liked Maddox’s character and I liked his developing friendships with Cory, Jason and Lincoln. I just wish Kinsley’s mom had been successful in breaking up their friendship when they were younger… 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fav character in the baseball series!

I absolutely loved the inner dialogue of the male protagonist. Dream guy. I thought she was a cross of Pollyanna and Phoebe from Friends but she was endearing.

Fantastic story!!

Magnetic. Electrifying. Two opposites with an undeniable attraction that you won’t be able to put this book aside. The chemistry and banter between Kinsley & Maddox is angonizingly delicious. The perfect, take your breath away, best friend-to-lovers romance. Quinn delivers steamy chemistry with a whopping, emotional punch. Each story/series centers around the importance of strong friendships as well as strong romantic relationships, and I LOVE that particular theme!! Kelsey Navarro & Connor Crais do an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions, attitude and personality.

Got Maddox you are everything

Listen, I’m not gonna lie the whole crunchy granola, earth, loving girl falling in love with the bad boy baseball player who happens to be her best friend didn’t really appeal to me at first. But the story between Kenzie and Maddox was literally the best. The spice was definitely spicy and I loved that Maddox was open to try new things and I love that Kenzie was just so about sex and being open and free with sex. I also really enjoyed the fact that Kenzie did not let Maddox off the hook and just come crawling back to her that easily that she made him work for it and he had to go get better before he came back to her. So needless to say, I absolutely love this story.

Steamy and emotional baseball romance

There’s always something special about a Brentway Boy. “The Change Up” is a steamy, emotional and sweet best friends to lovers baseball romance that was a spicy addition to the series.

Maddox and Kinsley have been best friends since they were 5 and have always been each other’s safe space. Kinsley has been Maddox’s biggest cheerleader and his safe space from his drunk father. Maddox was always on Kinsley’s side when she would rescue any animal in need. So when she gets the job opportunity of a lifetime, Maddox offers her his apartment to stay in Chicago. Although they’ve always kept in touch, this is the most time they’ve spent together as adults. And feelings are starting to change between them.

Whew, this book was steamy and I loved it. Maddox and Kinsley have such an amazing friendship and I loved how it developed into something more. Maddox is the bad boy of the Rebels, not afraid to get into fights to protect his teammates but underneath is a man who has some heavy emotional scars from his childhood. The burden he carried from childhood definitely weighed on him and who he became as an adult. But through the dark cloud, the sunshine Kinsley brought into his life. Kinsley is genuine, kind and has the biggest heart. She just wants to save all the animals and make everyone in her life happy. No matter your mood, you can’t help but be happy around her. These two had some things to work through since they were now in a relationship and both grew so much emotionally. Listening to Maddox grow and figure stuff out was something I loved. And I was so happy that my Jason and Dottie were in this book. And I can’t wait to start Lincoln’s book next.

Connor Crais and Kelsey Navarro Foster were absolutely perfect as Maddox and Kinsley. Connor’s performance was vulnerable, protective and emotional like Maddox. Kelsey was so much fun as Kinsley and brought her caring and supportive personality alive, I loved listening to her.

The Change Up

I have to say that I was ready to bawl my eyes out with the way Maddox, the male lead, treated Kenzlie throughout this book. He worshipped her. Then my heart was broken for her when he turned on her and out of the blue treated her like she was nothing to him.

This was a really great storyline, but has twist and turns that will keep you on your toes. The characters are strong, yet have past that come back to haunt them.

I wish that narrators would read all female or male parts as to their natural voices and not try to be something they are not. It takes away from the actual story when they do so.

I push through because the characters and storyline are so great.
