About this listen

I shouldn't have agreed to this. What was I thinking?
Appearing on a local news show? Just because something happened to me?
I live mostly in isolation on purpose.

But here I am.
I was so nervous that I needed the make-up chair, twice.
And then I walked past his room.

He's a giant—no softness, all muscle.
And a rich beard that made me want to rub myself all over it.
He made me see stars, literally because the second time I saw him, I tripped.
Or I would've, but he caught me, and the cameras were rolling.
Soon, that clip will be trending because he wasn't just another guest on the show.

He's Brett Broudou, the Kings' newest football star.
We couldn't be more opposite.
The only special thing about me is the reason I was on the show.
Brett, the Super Bowl champion, and me, the survivor who helped bring down the infamous Midwest Butcher.

Brett might not think he's anyone's hero, but he's about to become mine.

Heartwarming and Heartbreaking

I really loved this story. The author and narrators did a great job. I also really liked being able to see Brett’s personal growth and all the new characters. I also loved how Brett was with Billie. I guess it’s time to reread Fallen Crest. This story can be read as a standalone but it also fits in at the end of the Fallen Crest series.

Awesome plot twists

Really great story that brought several characters back together. I just wish that the author would stop using “I’ve not, they’ve not, he’s not, etc”. Not a single normal person speaks like that and it drives me insane in all of her writing. Otherwise, the book is great! Especially loved the final epilogue.

This was a surpirse

I love the fallen crest series and this was one while Brett was introduced in that series is a complete stand alone. It might enhance your reading to understand more of the history since there are some common characters mentioned and appearing in this one. I did always wonder what happened to Brett Broudou, he intrigued me and I was happy to get his story. I really enjoyed Billy as well, she reminded me of the FMC in the Not outcast which was fun even while dealing with some very heavy topics. I did kinda see the ending twist coming but there was one that threw me, which if you're a Tijan fan, she's good at that, Overall I enjoyed this story and the narration was done well.

Torn

The narration was wonderful. I'm left with so many questions... how was it never mentioned that the brothers body wasn't found? Why did her dad kill the family his daughter was with? I didn't see either the brother or the dad thing coming, and I liked the "suspence" aspect of the book. I just feel a little torn at the moment.

Wow

The ending actually shocked me. I really liked this book. I liked both the main characters. The trauma was real. The healing and resilience were real. Five stars!

OMG!! I think this is now my most favorite book

First, I love Tijan’s books. I love how her characters are strong and flawed. Each of their storylines are so unique and heartbreaking stories that you just can’t stop hoping good will come out at the end. This book has left me so amazed at these characters. And looking at real survivors stories and lives with more honor and strength for them. Thank you for your amazing storytelling. I’m sadden this universe will be ending soon but congratulations on such a great series! As always, the narrators were fantastic and I can’t wait to read/listen to more Tijan books!!!

suspense

I loved this book. Bret has a known past, drama and crimes from high school. He doesn't have the best family, but has risen above it. Billie has a past full of trauma. When they cross paths, it's instant sparks.

I’m still shook!!

I just finished the audio version and I still can’t stop thinking about the story. I am so glad that Brett got his own story. It was so good and well worth the wait!!!!!!
