About this listen

Seventeen-year-old Alice Bonham's life feels out of control after she meets Jack. With his fondness for pink Chuck Taylors and New Wave hits aside, Jack's unlike anyone she's ever met. Then she meets his brother, Peter. His eyes pierce through her, and she can barely breathe when he's around. Even though he can't stand the sight of her, she's drawn to him. But falling for two very different guys isn't even the worst of her problems. Jack and Peter are vampires, and Alice finds herself caught between love and her own blood....

GOOD BOOK

I JUST FINISHED THE AVAILIBLE BOOKS IN THS SERIES AND I HAVE TO SAY I WAS A BIT ANNOYED WITH I STARTED LISTENING TO THIS BOOK. I NEVER REALLY EXPECT THE FIRST BOOK IN A SERIES TO BE THE BEST BUT I WAS ALMOST REALLY DISAPOINTED BECAUSE I JUST REMINDED ME OF THE TWILIGHT BOOK. IT WAS PROBABLY THE AUTHORS BIGGEST INFLUENCE AND IT REALLY SHOWS. BUT... THE STORY IS REALLY GOOD AND THE AUTHORS DID DO A GREAT JOB ON THE SERIES SO IT IS WORTH LISTENING TO AND GETTING T NEXT BOOK.

Phenomenonal

Phenomenonal....."

I absolutely loved this book. I enjoyed the characters their story and interaction with each other. The narrator was great. 5 stars! I am a huge fan of the shade of a vampire by belladonna forrest however she has been a HUGE LETDOWN since not returning the rest of her books on audible and caring only for specific people aimed at books like the girl who dared to think which is really upsetting and then just throws a half junk book together after waiting for ever for more release's of her shade series . So her newest series is so terrible compared to her shade series it's called hoot bloods and I am so disappointed in her and the l ack of caring in her true fans that made her . However, this book series doesn't disappoint! !! Try it today . It seems like the book twilight at first really but it turns out that it's so much better and better ###

Twilight knock off in all the worst ways

Can we stop normalizing abusive relationships to young girls please? Also, there's no original content in this book.

frustrating

Would you try another book from Amanda Hocking and/or Hannah Friedman?

Book was ok. Narrator does not match emotions of characters. Audio book has TONS of differences from written book which makes it extremely frustrating to use Whispersync.

What didn’t you like about Hannah Friedman’s performance?

Her emotions don't match that of the chAracters.

Story is okay, narrator needs work

What made the experience of listening to My Blood Approves the most enjoyable?

The character was interesting.

If you’ve listened to books by Amanda Hocking before, how does this one compare?

I've read books by Amanda Hocking, but this is the first book I've listened to.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator seemed a bit awkward and she was almost monotone, but not quite. The flow was a little off and she didn't really enhance the experience by providing different voices for different characters. The British accents were just ok.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No

okay once it gets going

This book ends up being okay, but the character and story-line development takes a good half of the book, leaving only the last third of the book to actually be good. The book takes place in only a couple of weeks, but a lot and yet very little occur in that time frame. The main female character is not a strong character, and it takes very little to get her attention. You end up understanding that her strong attraction to the male character is something entirely different than you initially think, but it doesn't improve her weakness. The narrator is pretty horrible, very choppy and slow, but oddly enough she has a rhythm that you can eventually get in with and not annoy so much. And thankfully, my MP3 player has a fast playback feature for audiobooks. So overall, this is an okay listen, just okay enough that I will give the second book a try.

This is an excellent series

Any additional comments?

This is another story of young adults in a love triangle, but this is not Twilight. This series gives a new twist to the genre and is well written, heart breaking and sweet.

Whispersync is cheap

This was enjoyable (and cheap!). I liked the main character even if she was determined to die at sixteen for no good reason; you kind of see her death-wish personality as more like depression or being an adrenaline-junkie than blind devotion to guys she doesn't really know at all (even if the character sees it that way). For some reason, the idea that Alice was depressed (which honestly might be just my interpretation) made me like Alice more than I would if she was just determined to be a victim. But regardless, she was very...pitiable and hard to respect.

I'm not going to continue with this series probably though because while this audio book was entertaining, I really didn't like the junkie-like-state that the main character would get in whenever she was around Peter. Peter just didn't seem to have a personality to me, other than being a jerk, and all the encounters between them just seemed so low and demeaning to Alice--I don't really want to experience more of it.

To stay human or to become a vampire

Her life consisted of sitting at home with her brother, shopping/ partying/ hating herself with her friend until a stranger offered a whole new life for her. A choice must be made for Alice to turn or not to turn.

Alice is stuck in a love triangle between two vampires. She was tied to Peter, yet and in love with Jack. She was in a very unique position.

Narrator:
Hannah Friedman. This was my first audiobook by Hannah and while her voice was ideal for Alice’s character I didn’t find it was ideal for the other male characters. Hannah’s tone and sound was not performed to match the style of guys voice.
Some of the dialogue was altered to accommodate the audiobook performance which helped create a better understanding for the listener. I found one noticeable sound issue that didn’t deter from the story too much.

Overall:
I’m trying to determine if Alice is entertained by the idea of paranormal creatures after meeting Jack’s family. She seemed to question him knowing he wasn’t quite human, yet it was confusing. She jokes about him being a werewolf as if the thought of that is more realistic than being a vampire.
The evasiveness was a constant distraction that was disappointing.

The focus was not on the characteristics of vampirism. The story focused on this choice that Alice needed to make.

The family spoke to Alice with a familiarity that had me questioning if they knew her from a past. Alice eased into this friendship with Jack like an old friend reconnecting.

Amanda Hocking took a different approach at a paranormal romance. While I fondly remembered loving this story nine years ago I’m not loving it now. It’s definitely geared for a younger audience. I see the juvenistic side of Alice’s character shining thru.

They are not your typical vampires. I hardly felt like I was reading a vampire story. They had and lived like typical humans.
