Ross Lake was a small and quiet town, the kind where everyone knows each other. When Sara Jensen, a 22-year-old graduate of the police academy, took a position with the Ross Lake Police Department, she never expected to see any action.

Then one day, a couple of hikers come across a woman's body in the woods. Sara and her veteran partner, Harold Dunn, are thrown into a world of secrets and horror as they investigate her murder. Dunn and Jensen aren't the only ones who want a confession, though. A malevolent spirit is also seeking revenge and clings to the world of the living through the people it knew in life, but the police can't prosecute the dead, so Dunn and Jensen must stop the spirit to save their suspect.

The story begins normally in that there is no hint of supernatural. Eventually the supernatural creeps in with moderate flair which is perfect to keep all of the characters questioning if what they think happened really happened. There were some elements of the story that felt rushed but overall was forgivable. Overall the story is enjoyable and the narrator has a great cadence and variety of voices for the characters.

I was looking forward to a cut little whodunnit thriller and was not expecting this ride.

These characters become a part of you and you will never get them out of your soul. It was certainly entrenched in our own world and the research into how the world of Columbia works showed through.

The style of the writing begs the author to return to thriller and horror! The heart palpitations are certainly real!

I also did not expect half of the plot twists! CL "Chey" Carner is the 3rd recipient of the #CurseOfChap18 !!

I could not stop listening. I could not stop pressing play. Every move the cops made were what I would do in their shoes except one: I would have ran away!

I enjoyed the heck out of this book. For those that read book prompts or challenges, this was started in NaNoWriMo.

Easy 5 Stars!!

I started it this morning thinking I would listen for a bit and then pick it up whenever I had time. Well, I MADE time to finish this! I'm already done and I have to say, it was great! The story is great, the possession is creepy in a good way, and the author did a wonderful job at describing the scenes, and their set up for the twist was fantastic. The narrator was great, he did a good job at pulling me in and not distracting me from the story often. He was great at multiple voices too, which was very fun to hear.

I was surprised by the direction of the story, and I like the way that it ended with the nurse. This is definitely a memorable story and I'm glad I made time to listen!!

this book is pure horror and I loved every min. it's a book I will listen to over and over again. I have not had nightmares since the release of the exorcism of Emily rose movie. I love nightmares and it's been awhile since I had horror dreams. very chillingly spine tingling creepy satisfaction. if u consider ghost stories or demonic stories or movies pure horror then u must give this book a listen. the narration adds greatness to this awesome book.

I found this one utterly odd ,
Possession of a ghost. Unclear if there was actually any character I overly liked.
2.5 star listen. The narrative was ok I wasn’t bored but it didn’t overly hold my interest either.
Not overly long either.
Gifted audio.
