About this listen

He called her Red. She called him in from the cold. For one short moment in the big, hard city they were friends--and then the girl turned up dead.

Mike Hammer will walk through walls to find out who she was and why she died, even if he doesn't like the answers he gets. Even if they are all about a seamy network of call-girls, blackmail, and hoods. Hammer owes something to Red, and he plans to make good-because in this town a friend is hard to find.

An abridged review because this was an abridged audiobook edition of Mickey Spillane’s novel: Stacy Keach did a nice job with the narration.

Truth in labeling would be appreciated

I didn’t realise it, but the book was a bridged from what I could tell. This subtracts enormously from my enjoying the book.

40 some years ago when I read this book I didn’t notice the number of mistakes that Mike Hammer made. Standing too close to a bad guy, having his back toward an open door, leaving important information on his office desk, etc. He might be tough but not too smart.

Stacey Keach was great. The story wasn't as good as the previous book I, The Jury, but it was alright.

not as good as the previous, but good.

What can you say about Mickey Spillaine's Mike Hammer? He is the prototype. He is the ones the others patterned their books on.
