About this listen

USA Today bestselling author Loretta Chase continues her Difficult Dukes series with this charming brother’s best friend second-chance historical romance.

Of all the dukes in all the world, why does it have to be him?

Lady Alice Ancaster needs a husband, and fast, because her reckless brother is going to get himself killed, leaving the dukedom—and her future—in their repellent cousin’s clutches.

The Duke of Blackwood has known Alice since childhood, and they’ve always had a special connection. But years ago he broke it, when he chose a riotous life with his two best friends instead of a reasonable one with her.

The trouble is, the tall, dark, sardonic rogue keeps turning up exactly when needed, and ready—though he sometimes needs a push—to play the hero, if only for as long as it takes.

Being irresistibly drawn to the Wrong Man is not convenient, but when events come to a crisis, Alice has to make a choice. The question is, can she live with it?

I really liked this trilogy of the Difficult Dukes...it had a very good fold in with the events in the first two books. One thing seemed a bit off was some dates not aligning...but now I'm ready for a combined prequel/sequel combo story which would highlight Uncle Fred and Aunt Julia as well as Cassandra's sister, the Flower 😅😂 & Morris.
I love Loretta Chase's storytelling.🤗

Moreso My Convenient Duke🤗

Overall the book was okay. The end dragged out and I found myself not listening. Too much time passed and too many dates listed. I like the characters in all three books. I won’t listen to it again but I would recommend listening to all three books.

Good Listen

The author convincingly wove together many characters relationships and motivations..I had been so puzzled by Alice's character and I liked the resolution . Some beautiful setting descriptions, an interesting plot and gentle, calm narration. Will be able to enjoy listening to this story again.

So enjoyable, long wait was worth it

The depth and intensity of the relationship between the two main characters, conveyed beautifully with humor and a remarkable openness between them is mesmerizing. Their knowledge of each other and patience with each other’s foibles makes for a delightful intimacy for the reader, a feeling of inclusion in their mental and emotional connection, an admiration for the complexity and the dance it is. Thoroughly enjoyable!

The quality of the relationship between the two main characters.

Too much time spent on secondary plotlines and not nearly enough on the couple left me very disappointed! I love Loretta Chase, her dukes, and the voice of Kate Reading, but not this installment. Having read the first two, I was excited to learn about Alice and Blackwood and their hinted-at estrangement, but this book was just meh! I found nothing overly exciting - especially their coming together. Several conclusions we already knew from the first books in the series, so it wasn't much of a page turner. Even their estrangement turned out to be no big deal. I wanted more heat, sparks, and lovey-doveyness!!

Least romantic romance ever

Loretta Chase is one of my favorite HR authors. I bought this book as soon as it was available. Although I tried to stretch it out, it was too good. I devoured all 11+ hours in less than a day!
I loved the hero, Giles. When we meet him, he is wild and seemingly out of control, but the reader soon learns that underneath he is ruled by an unwavering sense of honor. He is protective of the heroine without being controlling. And like some of my other favorite Loretta Chase heroes he is charmingly oblivious to love. He doesn’t even recognize his feelings when he blurts out a marriage proposal for no apparent reason.
The heroine is strong and likable and a good match for the hero. The side characters, especially Alice’s main suitor are likable as well.
One of the most interesting aspects of the book is that it reaches a lovely and classic HEA, but it doesn’t end there. It goes on to deal with the challenges of the first year of marriage and comes to yet another satisfying HEA.
I know I’ll be reading this book again!

Such a satisfying story!

This had to have been one of the most steady, undramatic (in a good way!) romances I've read in a while. No plot twist, no groveling, just two people who are clearly meant for each other figuring out how to make it work. I really enjoyed this story - the other Dukes books left me wondering how Chase would roll out the plot lone to resolution. Recommend Audible for Kate Reading's interpretation a complement to Chase's writing.

Another Solid Story from Loretta Chase

Oh how I love Loretta Chase! I have never had a bad experience. Her gift for character, romance, setting, and history are beyond compare. And the banter! Her dialogue is so quick and dry - nobody does it better. Then when you add Kate Reading as narrator to the mix, it makes for some of the very best historical romance reading experiences. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go wrong with a Loretta Chase story. Though I am sorry the Difficult Dukes series has come to a close, I can’t help but remain excited for what Ms. Chase cooks up next! And in the meantime, I can go back and re-read/listen to her wonderful catalogue to my heart’s content. As I always do. ❤️

Nobody does it better than Chase and Reading…

the narrator kate reading is my all time favorite. as for the nook. I liked it all. I wondered when the villain would make his move and just how dastardly it would be.

the progress of the main characters relationship and their growth and care if each other as a married couple.

What a pleasure to hear witty and very funny banter, made even more humorous by a gifted narrator. The hero is wonderful, both protective of and sensitive to the heroine. It's refreshing to enjoy an unusual romance, that takes the time to build from friendship to love, while the hero and heroine rescue an endearing street urchin and pursue villains. It's also unusual and enjoyable to see how the couple fares after marrying. And this story ties together beautifully with the other two wonderful stories in this series, which is a tribute to the author's skill.

Wonderful story and narrator
