Publisher's summary

An extraordinary and startlingly original sequel to Ishmael

“Enthralling, shocking, hope-filled, and utterly fearless, Daniel Quinn leads us deeper and deeper into the human heart, history, and spirit. In My Ishmael, Quinn strikes out into entirely new territory, posing questions that will rock you on your heels, and providing tantalizing possibilities for a truly new world vision.” (Susan Chernak McElroy, author of Animals as Teachers & Healers)

When Ishmael places an advertisement for pupils with “an earnest desire to save the world”, he does not expect a child to answer him. But 12-year-old Julie Gerchak is undaunted by Ishmael’s reluctance to teach someone so young and convinces him to take her on as his next student. Ishmael knows he can't apply the same strategies with Julie that he used with his first pupil, Alan Lomax - nor can he hope for the same outcome. But young Julie proves that she is ready to forge her own spiritual path and arrive at her own destination. And when the time comes to choose a pupil to carry out his greatest mission yet, Ishmael makes a daring decision - a choice that just might change the world.

Read Ishmael.

No matter if you are into Camus or Existentialism or the TaoTeChing, these all operate within the framework of what is wrong with the world. Quinn shows us how to get it all back and it is there for us to take.

another fantastic perspective

these books are some of the most important to who I am as a person. they have truly changed my worldview. at first for the negative but eventually for the positive. this is a book I think about everyday and when conversations get deep with someone I've often refrnaced these ideas. I'm amazed it isn't more popular. this one in particular only added another perspective to the story and an insightful one at that.

A plethora of thoughts on the reasons to divest from these tamer systems and think anew.

I'll miss you Ishmael, what a beautiful book series with such beautiful and tantalizing ideas. What if there was a better way? What if all we know isn't actually all we know?

a must listen, a perfect complement for Ishamel!

I've had an amazing experience listening to this book. The narrator voice(s!) and subtle changes of characters are a must.
The story is a masterpiece, a perfect complement for Ishmael I've listen a while ago. Thank you Audible for bringing this to life.

After almost 30 years…I’m happy with it.

I was first introduced to Ishmael in a college class back in about 94…
I was for sure a “non traditional student”, having been bending wrenches on heavy equipment for many years.
Although the assignment was a short one, it turned me on to the book and I was very thankful for that.
Now after almost 30 more years have flown by—I’m listening to scores of audiobooks and just found out about books 2 and 3.
Decided to start with Ishmael again and do them all.
I will admit that all those years ago I was “the old curmudgeon in the room” with the “it’s all going to hell in a hand basket” guy.
I hate to have to say that now that I’m old and about to enter into my “end game”… The situation is much worse and I will be spending my last days in Thailand.
The “B’s” have lost.
