About this listen

A victim of her mother’s Munchausen by proxy and child abuse survivor, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s unique and controversial case made headlines across the world.

Now, she’s finally free to start living her life on her terms—and to tell her own story as only she can.

Forced to use a wheelchair in public and endure a lifetime of faux illness, fraud, and exploitation, Gypsy was subjected not only to her mother’s medical, physical, and emotional abuse, but deprived of childhood milestones. Prevented from attending school or socializing, Gypsy’s formative years were defined by pain and isolation.

After serving eight years in prison for the role she played in her mother Dee Dee’s murder, Gypsy is embracing her fresh start—and reminding all of us that it’s never too late.

In this revelatory, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful memoir, Gypsy shares the painful realities she grew up with and the details of her life that only she knows, including:
• The abusive cycle that began with Dee Dee’s abuse by her father
• Gypsy’s fear that continued unnecessary surgery would leave her truly disabled
• How she coped with guilt and accepted responsibility for her mother’s death
• Memories of her final days in prison
• What she learned upon reviewing her own medical records for the first time
• How it felt to finally see her family again as her authentic self

Featuring new facts about Gypsy’s life that she previously kept private, My Time to Stand offers an unprecedented look at the real Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, proudly embarking on her ongoing journey to recovery and self-discovery.

I read this book in a couple of days. It was a good read, but I feel like I was hoping for more. It was very simple and kind of felt like a watered down version .Very safe .

I felt like alot of the book was her rationalizing her actions. but who doesn't do this. I enjoyed the book

the authors perspective

I wasn’t captivated by Gypsy’s recounting of her life. If you’re watched the movie and saw the Life After Lockup episodes then you have all the info she shares in the book. Her reading is monotone and the book gives 5th grade book report vibes.

It was okay

I could not stop listening. Gypsy did a great job reading the book. There was many incidents in Gypsy’s life prior to her mom’s death that are missed in the movies. Such a sad situation. My heart goes out to them all.

Beautifully Heart wrenching

I thought this was interesting. It wasn’t meant to be some great production. I liked that it seemed authentic and it was her in her words.

Excellent narrative and breathtaking storytelling of the own experiences. I personally enjoyed hearing the story directly from Gypsy-Rose literally narrated by her. Excellent experience.

I loved this book. I have so much love for Gypsy and everything she managed to live through. Her life was truly a nightmare. Yet she persisted with strength, humility, and courage. I loved the audiobook so I could hear her story through her voice even more. Especially given she lived so much of her life without a voice. I don’t understand the haters out there she has and it sickens me to see. I wish her nothing but happiness and the absolute best. I applaud her for everything she’s overcame and her quest to make herself whole.

Powerful, strong, emotional read

While at times I felt the audio was a bit rawer than some, it was incredible to hear Gypsy tell her story in her voice! Def recommend as she goes further in depth than any of her shows

Incredible Storytelling 👏🏻👏🏻
