About this listen

As far as Jennifer can remember, her father was abusive but her mother wasn’t always. She remembers a time when she felt loved by her mother. All that changed when Jennifer was 11. Her mother snapped and became a monster like her father was. Then they turned on her. Jennifer fought to become who she wanted to be, and not who her parents were trying to make her be. She refused to allow the torture change her, like it changed her mother. This is the story of Jennifer’s past, how she got through it, and how she survived it all.

Her fortitude is inspiring

I watched the documentary about these children, and was touched when Jennifer and Jordan shared their story. This is not a "tell all" book. Jennifer is so respectful to herself and her family in telling only the experiences she is comfortable sharing and only her side of the story in this book. She does reveal some stories about her upbringing, however I appreciate the great emphasis on how she was able to endure, persevere, and survive the torture. It's difficult enough to know she was abused, but it is more hopeful and inspiring to hear how she was able to do so with such great fortitude.

my best friend jennifer turpin

jennifer turpin is a close friend of mine I was the first person to be given the honor of reading her memoir. in 2021 she sent me the full rough draft of this Memoir and I would like to say that I'm so proud of her. look at what she has accomplished in such a short period of time. sure her life was hell but she's made so much good come from it. my heart still breaks when I think about what she had to endure but I believe that she is the bravest smartest and most genuine person you will ever meet. she is definitely a one-of-a-kind woman. honestly I can't imagine my life without her. one thing people should really know is that Jennifer Turpin is by far the most honest person I have ever met and reading her book even though it's short it feels like reading her diary because it comes from her heart. and I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported her.

Thank you Jennifer!

This story has made my faith in God so much stronger than it has ever been. It is the most powerful testimony I have ever heard. I bought physical copies for my best friend my dad and myself so I can share it.

Well spoken and wonderfully written

I couldn’t tell that you only made it to a 3rd grade education, as was mentioned in the audio. It was well written. And Well spoken. Something I learned from the Jaycee duggard memoir is these books make it to their abusers secrets aren’t kept secret forever. I’ve learned a ton from this book and hope the best of this life for you!

Lack of detail

I felt like there were more details available in a Google search than were divulged in this book. This book was mostly about her believing that God was with her through all of this torture and that God supposedly brought her out of it. I won’t share my opinions on that, but this book was not worth the listen for me.
