Publisher's summary

Kristoffer Kristofferson is an American singer-songwriter and actor.

Among his songwriting credits are the songs "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which were hits for other artists.

Kristofferson composed his own songs and collaborated with Nashville songwriters such as Shel Silverstein. In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash in forming the country music supergroup The Highwaymen, and formed a key creative force in the outlaw country music movement that eschewed the Nashville music machine in favor of independent songwriting and producing. In 2004, Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

He is also known for his starring roles in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Heaven's Gate, Blume in Love, Blade, and A Star Is Born, the last of which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Here, he remembers his dear friend and collaborator, the great Janis Joplin.

narration excellent but critical analysis wanting

even though kristopherson's narration is fairly comprehensive, there is little exploration of different points of view of the events he brings up, what there is an overall reductive judgment of various incidents and their importance in her career without allowing for different takes on her experiences both professional and personal by those who experienced them with her. for instance when she described her return to Port Arthur as demoralizing in an interview, there were no follow-up questions that would allow her to amplify or perhaps to even examine them for herself. This lack of interviewing thoroughness should have at least been commented on in the narration or by other informed voices, but wasn't.

Not About Kris Kristofferson!

This book is about Janis Joplin, NOT Kris Kristofferson. It is narrated by Kris, as he tells us about Janis. I love both artists, so it was ok by me. I gave the performance 5 stars because Kris could be reading anything and it would be worth listening to! Certainly worth the few dollars I spent on it.
