About this listen

Nan is back. After living abroad for 12 years, she and her husband, Ryan, aka H.H., have returned to New York to make a life for themselves. In the midst of getting her new business off the ground and fixing up their fixer-upper, Ryan announces his sudden desire to start a family. His timing simply couldn't be worse.

To compound the mounting construction and marital chaos, her former charge, Grayer X, now 16 years old, makes a drunken, late-night visit, wanting to know why she abandoned him all those years ago. But how can she explain to Grayer what she still hasn't come to terms with herself? In an attempt to assuage her guilt, yet against every instinct, Nan tries to help Grayer and his younger brother, Stilton, through their parents' brutal divorce, drawing her back into the ever-bizarre life of Mrs. X and her Upper East Side enclave of power and privilege.

After putting miles and years between herself and this world, Nan finds she's once again on the front line of the battle with the couture-clad elite for their children's wellbeing.

With its whip-smart dialogue and keen observations of modern life, Nanny Returns gives a firsthand tour of what happens when a community that chose money over love finds itself with neither.

Just as good as Nanny Diaries.

Loved it. Laugh out loud funny. The narrator is great. Hate that it's over.

Ok

I liked the first book much better. This book struck me as unfocused. It jumped around so much it distracted from the main plot. To much time and detail about her wealthy so called friends. Not enough about her new life, her husbands absence and the impact the boys were having. I was disappointed.

Just so good

What fun!! I did not hold out much hope for the sequel even though I really liked the original. However, this is just fabulous. Intelligent, witty writing that makes this guilty pleasure feel not so guilty. Narrator was wonderful and captured the New York attitude. I found myself laughing out loud at parts- so much fun.

A perfect summery..

i really wondered it this book would be able to live up to the first, and although at times it can seem a confusing ( lots of story lines), the relationships between the nanny and the kids still pulled at my heart strings..i gave it 4 stars..it was a great summery to the lives of characters we fell in love with the first time around..glad a bought it..

A sequel worth the read

I love how this answers all of my questions that the first book left me with. Great introduction of new characters and I was amazed at the growth of old characters.

Awful!

This was one of the worst book I have ever read/heard. Not one character had a redeeming quality. Well maybe the little boy. I hope the authors refrain from writing a sequel to this one. Surely they know more words than the F bomb.

Spoiled by narrator

I am very disappointed... I loved loved loved reading the Nanny Diaries, and was so looking forward to listening to the book. But right off the bat I couldn't get into the story because I was distracted by the narrator. You can hear every single breath she takes, and her character voices were flat. Perhaps I am being too hard on the reader... perhaps the recording was just extra sensitive to her breathing and other lip smacking like noises. Sorry Susan Bennett...

The story was fine, but I probably wasn't paying close enough attention to enjoy it...

Last resort reading.

Considering I'm not going to even fish the book, I'd have to say this is a fail. I loved Nanny Diaries, I even read it twice. This time around, I didn't connect at all with any of the characters and felt indifferent, and sometimes confused, in the direction(s) the book took. I rarely find fault with the way an author chooses to write her own book. This one was a disappointment though. It left me feeling like I wish I would have quit (reading) while I was ahead. Oh well, on to the next book.
