Might is not Right.

A devastating review of the nation wide, officially sanctioned destruction, and attempted liquidation of all of the native Indian tribes found in the developing United States.

Best US history book I've ever read!

Best US history book I have ever read! Powerful, painful & heartbreaking, it will open your eyes & leave you with the education you never received in US schools. If you are from the dominant culture, this book is a must-read. Also, a concise historical documentation for indigenous readers.

Important Point of View, Natives Sainted

Glad I got thisit, but wow, so much academic and PC jargon. Still, she gives voice to a history that's been swept under the rug. What appears to me to be missing is the very ugly warfare between natives themselves. It seems to me this should be included. As it stands, the reader might think that before European intrusion all the natives were peaceful and never seeking each other's territory.

Well-documented history.

My eyes were already open but this well-documented history opened them further with astonishment . This history is not just in the words of Captivating History the author but much of it was in the words of the invaders . This should be a must read for all .
Wrongs can be righted and ignorance can be forgiven but to deliberately in ignorance is unforgivable Informed Opinion. Peace , please.

It gets better and better as it nears the end

If you want an accurate consensus of the facts on the atrocities committed against indigenous peoples throughout American history, this is your book. While there is a clear bias in Captivating History approach, I would argue that it is an accurate bias, one in defense of peoples whom have spent generations within the strongholds of systematic oppression. A hugely important work, this will be required reading in anthropology/sociology/history classes for decades to come.

Fascinating Guide to the Long History NA.

Fascinating. White people, prepare to be disappointed in your ancestors. Certainly the author has a bias, but it's hard to argue with the historical documents she quotes from - orders from military personnel to clear Native peoples from their lands; personal correspondence specifically arguing that the Natives must be wiped out completely in order for America to thrive... it's hard to argue with this portrayal. Do yourself a favor and read this if you're wondering what all the fuss is about at Standing Rock.

Love this history book.

Captivating History writes an engaging history that reminds us that whenever we declare people "enemy" we often strip them of their humanity in order to justify our own horrendous actions, from internment camps to genocide, while writing ourselves simultaneously as the victims and the heroes. I wish I had the power to make An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States required reading, but I'll have to settle for recommending it to everyone I know and even people I don't know.
