Publisher's summary

Homicide detective partners Barbara Lassiter and Susan Martinez return in this third edition of the Lassiter/Martinez Case Files series.

Called in to investigate a mysterious death in a retirement center, Lassiter and Martinez find themselves entangled in a case that might very well involve multiple murders committed by a psychopathic killer. The deeper they get into their investigation, the more complex and dangerous the case becomes, threatening the lives of the detectives and their loved ones. Political and bureaucratic machinations within the detectives’ department and the involvement of organized crime only make their jobs more difficult.

Award-winning, Amazon number one best-selling author Joseph Badal offers up another suspenseful tale, with twists and turns that will put and keep the listener on a roller coaster ride of drama, action, and emotion from beginning to end.

Fast paced and with great characters

This is another of the three books about 2 female New Mexico detectives and they just get better and better. This time Barbara and Susan are investigating a "normal" death at a nursing home of one of Susan's grandfather's friends. It has mystery, and thrills, and when you find out who was responsible halfway through it still doesn't let up. I love the two old men in the nursing home and I love their accents and characters, old but with a great sense of humor and you just fall in love with them! There's still romance for Barbara and Susan along with lots of action. The reader just nails the hint of Hispanic accent and Barbara's New York background comes out but not overdone. Character's voices differentiated well and the suspense just builds. I guess you have to wait for the fourth book if there will be one since there was little hint of that toward the end. All in all a really good listen of a really good book.

They're back and even better

I really am enjoying this series by Joseph Badal about two female detectives in New Mexico trying to earn their place in the department full of men. This time Susan Martinez' grandfather is in a nursing home and of course, people die as usual. But are they really just dying of old age and natural causes? This book gives a lot more personality to Barbara and Susan and had me guessing about the perp. You find out halfway through the book but then the fun realy starts as they discover some unexpected connections that prove to be dangerous.

Badal and Almand make a good team in all 3 audiobooks to make these women likeable and fun.You really get to know them and there feelings and personalities and you really root for them. The suspense is there in the reader's voice but also the warmth of the women and their hopes and fears. The character of the all the voices is very enjoyable and Miss Almand nails the very slight NY accent of Barbara and also some of the Hispanic accents without being stereotype. I live in New Mexico for many years and she gets it. And the head of the detectives has a voice like fingernails on the chalkboard just as Barbara describes it!

And Mr. Badal lease it open for the fourth book. I hope it comes soon!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to listen to some of his other books, too and more of Miss Almands.
