About this listen

The popular and highly respected horse trainer Mark Rashid brings together Western and Eastern philosophies to demonstrate a seamless new incarnation of horse training. After years of helping "difficult" horses, Mark Rashid understands how to build the foundation of a horse's training and resolve any problems encountered along the way. He explains how he allows the traditionally firm or assertive approach of the old Western style to take some lessons from the softer conflict resolution and ego reduction approach that the Japanese martial art of aikido teaches. Rashid's ultimate goal is harmony between horse and rider.

So enjoyable I read it twice!

This book brings a unique perspective to horsemanship. I like the application of Akido philosophy to interacting with horses.

Amazing book

I have been reading and rereading Mark Rashid's books for years. This book explains some basic points about life and horses from the perspective of Aikido. It is well written, interesting, insightful, and unusual. Very well done.

The relationship is clear

He gives new understanding to some issues, I don’t think most give any thought to at all this is the second book of his I have really enjoyed and I now find myself thinking I’d like to go to one of his clinics. He is honest and practical and understands things on a level most don’t.

Narrator was bad

It was hard to listen to. The narrator was very mono-tonal and boring. I struggled to get through it.

A Good Read

As usual Mark Rashid has wonderful tidbits and stories to share. His horsemanship and experiences are so helpful along this horsemanship journey. His explanation about communication and space are relevant to horses, and people and everyday life.
Great information.
The narrator could use a little more enthusiasm when reading. Couldn't listen when driving, because his cadence makes me sleepy.😉

kata

I find all of Mark Rashid's books helpful. The narrator's mispronunciation of "kata" was irritating. One would think a paid narrator would make an effort to research unfamiliar words especially when they are integral to the topic.

An absolute must listen!

Having studied the art of horsemanship for numerous decades, first as a western rider, then progressing into the world of hunters and eventually dressage and becoming an instructor and trainer for over 25 years, I have found no author who can compare to the writings of Mark Rashid. His books truly take you not only deeply into the mind of the horse, and give you the possibility of developing “a relationship “ and not just a mechanical dominance, but also take you on a journey of developing a deeper understanding of life. Priceless reads/listens.
