About this listen

From their birth in World War II as combat swimmers clearing the beaches of Normandy to their evolution into fighting men who could operate anywhere in the world by sea, air, or land, the intrepid story of the United States Navy SEALs is one of courage, sacrifice, and world-renowned toughness that echoes of other great military units of history - the Spartans, the Roman legions, or the samurai. Take a look inside to find out what makes the SEALs America's deadliest warriors.

Mann and Burton take the listener through the inception of the Naval Combat Demolition Teams (NCDU) and Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) during World War II, their testing and development in Korea and into the Vietnam War, where the SEALs truly laid the groundwork for their legendary status, and on into the present day. The authors highlight the major steps and operations along the way, discuss the training and what it takes, and explore some of the most important moments in SEAL history.

Great performance.

I really loved the mixture of information in this book in addition to the actual story telling. Very good read and, very good resource.

Good read.

HOW did we lose ANY wars, with SEALs at our disposal? 😂 This book IS a good read. But, just know that the author DEFINITELY had a crush, on SEALs… looking at them through “honeymoon goggles”. Still Worth the buy, and read.

Redacted should be the title...

Most of the redactions in the book have books and movies written about them. Totally unnecessary (redacted) book.

a waste of time...

It is rare that I give a book a poor review. However, this book deserves it. nothing new, different, or exciting that has not already been written about before and a much better fashion. A weak ass effort. I feel like the authors we're just looking for a pay day of some sort. I've lost time, money, and respect for Don Mann.

I really really (redacted) this book !

I understand that some of this information is withheld to protect participants in these military squads but if you plan to redact this much data from a book, maybe the book itself shouldn’t be written. Sadly, the lack of vital information like team names (didn’t have to be real) , members names(also could have been false) and locations broke the connection to the story and made it feel more like I was reading a report. A mysterious squad remains mysterious I guess.

Really Weak book about an awesome topic…

Don’t waste your time. I hate giving up on a book but this one, just not good. Maybe my bad but I was looking for some real history. What I got was a little history with very poorly written stories portraying events or examples of what missions were like. Dialogue in those mixed in little stories is just bad! And the narrator, very monotone and droning.
I hate giving up on a book but thus one…nope!!

Wake me up when..

This is the most boring listen I have ever heard. If you ever need to fall asleep to an exciting topic, this is the perfect book. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
