About this listen

There are three things you need to know about Lady Jane Morrison:

  1. She frequently finds herself the talk of the ton and for all the wrong reasons.
  2. A dashingly mysterious gentleman has caught her attention, and even more dangerous...she has caught his.
  3. She’s rubbish at embroidery.

After scandalous events during the London season, Lady Jane is attracting the wrong kind of attention. Her reputation is at risk as well as all her carefully laid plans for the future. And for better or worse, a chance encounter with a mysterious lord sets forth a series of events that will change their lives forever.

Neanderthal Seeks Duchess is a Penny Reid Universe reimagining, where the characters of Janie Morris and Quinn Sullivan from the Knitting in the City Series have been reimagined as existing in Regency England. It is a full-length historical romance, can be listened to as a stand-alone and is book number one in the London Ladies Embroidery series, Smartypants Romance Out of this World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

Such a wonderful re-telling

I absolutely loved this! Laney did an amazing job bringing this story to another world. It felt new and familiar at the same time and I cannot wait to experience the rest of the Out of This World re-tellings.

Fantastic Debut!

Lady Jane Morrison is attracting high society attention for all the wrong reasons. When family scandals put her reputation in the balance, Lady Jane decides to try to go about things her own way and soon attracts the attention of a mysterious Lord.

Can she work with a man whose name she doesn't even know? Is there a man who would pursue her for her brains and not just her beauty?

Ladies and Gentlemen - prepare thy lemonade! Lady Jane Morrison and her friends will be shaking things up this season.

I am such a huge fan of Penny Reid’s work and the Knitting in the City book series. As soon as I heard there was going to be a “retelling” written of Neanderthal Seeks Human I was on board. I had very high expectations going in and Laney Hatcher did not disappoint. She managed to keep the main points of the original story while flawlessly adapting it to a historical romance. It is not often you see a modern to historical remake but it worked so well.

This book was so delightful, I was grinning from the first chapter. I could not put it down! I love the name changes that the characters are given that reflect the historical era. The book does have some spice to it but not any more than the original.

If you are a fan of the Knitting in the City book series, you will love Neanderthal Seeks Duchess. Even if you have not read Neanderthal Seeks Human, but enjoy historical romance, you will applaud this book's unique plot and fun cast of characters. I hope that we will be getting historical adaptations of all of the Knitting in the City books.

I am amazed that this is Laney Hatcher’s debut book. I can’t wait for her next book that also comes out in May, First To Fall and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

Fantastic debut for Laney Hatcher on the regency retelling!

I loved everything about this audiobook!
First, the creativity of this regency retelling of Neanderthal Seeks Human had me smiling and laughing from start to finish. Second, the modern way Ms. Hatcher writes women in regency England actually makes me like reading regency romance.
The narration enhances the story and is like icing on the cake. I love so much that they brought back Jennifer Grace! And Jennifer Grace with an English accent? Check. Jennifer Grace with a Scottish and Irish accent? Check and check. I can already tell this is going to be a favorite re-listen for me, looking forward to more audio titles from this author!

Slow

This has got to be the slowest book I have ever read. It took me 2 weeks! I love penny reid and most of the smarty pants romance which is why I stuck with it to the end. I won’t read the others if they’re written by the same author. Please don’t waste your money.

DNF

It’s just so bad, i’m sorry to say it. I really wanted to like it as Neanderthal seeks Human is one of my all time favs and I love British Regency novels. But, there is just no build up of why Q would fall in love and Why Janey is just sooo smart!
I absolutely loved Jennifer Grace’s Janey in Neanderthal Seeks Human, she was absolutely outstanding BUT her interpretation of the British accent wasn’t… ummmm good.
I had to return this title, I just couldn’t keep going and I really tried!
