About this listen

Aelis de Lenti, Lone Pine's newly assigned Warden, is in deep trouble. She has just opened the crypts of Mahlgren, releasing an army of the undead into the unprotected backwoods of Ystain.

To protect her village, she must unearth a source of immense Necromantic power at the heart of Mahlgren. The journey will wind through waves of undead, untamed wilderness, and curses far older than anything Aelis has ever encountered. But as strong as Aelis is, this is one quest she cannot face alone.

Along with the brilliant mercenary she's fallen for, her half-orc friend, and a dwarven merchant, Aelis must race the clock to unravel mysteries, slay undead creatures, and stop what she has set in motion before the flames of a bloody war are re-ignited.

good story line, great characters with appropriate growth, awesome vocal preference, neat magic with constant rules, looking forward to book 3, and will listen again

very enjoyable

I'm disappointed with this book. The storyline was chaotic, jumping from one scenario to another without any real closure. Atop that, the author hasn't allotted much time for emotional connections. I understand that the main character is kind of awkward around people, but even when alone she doesn't show very complex emotions. For example, she mentions being in love, but none of the moments between her and her love express it. Which, I must add was my biggest hope. More, the author over explains many of the things that I could care less about. Such as the components or a spell, or mundane housework, it was just fluff, and didn't add to the storyline except to make the book longer.

Sadly, it went from intriguing, to confusing but interesting, to wierd and a bit boring. I would only listen to another book if it were free. Thank you for trying though, author. Also, thank you to the narrator who is a great performer!

A growing frustration with the maturity/communication of the characters peaked 2/3 of the way through the second book. The writer leaned too hard onto a bad situation and broke the threadbare suspension of disbelief he left the reader about their relationship. I have completely lost interest in the main character and do not want them to succeed. I wish the pacing was better so this would have come up sooner, but that was also disappointing. The world building is the only saving grace of this story. 2/5
