Publisher's summary

Sassy Winthrop has just turned 21. But instead of being a time of fun, parties, and courting, it has been a time of loss, grief, and transitions. With the death of her beloved father, a kindly country vicar, Sassy is left not only without immediate family, but she must also leave the only home she has ever known to make room for the new vicar. And if that weren’t enough, she is also going through transition as her powers of light magic are completed. When a friend of her late mother arranges for Sassy to become a tutor at Netherby Halls, a boarding school for genteel orphaned girls, it seems the perfect solution. But as she makes the journey to Netherby she meets the man who has been making love to her in her dreams… the irresistible Marquis of Dartmour. And that is only the beginning. For finds things at Netherby are not what they seem, and neither is the handsome marquis. Unsure whom to trust, Sassy has to find her way through a maze of evil and magic.

Another great one

Would you consider the audio edition of Netherby Halls to be better than the print version?

I have grown to love listening to the audiobooks more than reading the actual book or ebooks. When listening to the audiobooks it's like you're there in the story with the characters. It really brings the story to life.

This was a great story and I absolutely love the fact that magic was also brought into the story. I fell in love with Sassi (spelling?) from the moment I met her. I also felt her pain of being an orphan. No, I'm not an orphan but I can only imagine what that would feel like to a child. Claudy, you have delivered yet another great book!

My one and only complaint is that during the recording, there were several parts of sentences that were repeated. I don't know if it was just a glitch in the recording or maybe it was my kindle being a pain. Overall, the book and narration were excellent. I would recommend any of Claudy's books and the narrator to all my friends.

Gripping and Sexy

Where does Netherby Halls rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was my first Audiobook, I listened while taking a long drive and I really enjoyed it. I will be listening to more books similar to this one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sassy, because she starts as such an underdog with so many things going against her and she is able to find herself and experience life through tragedy

Which character – as performed by Jane Farnham – was your favorite?

Sassy again, being the main character I became enthralled as Jane narrated the story of her life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when Sassy discovers Justin. This part is moving because like so many women before her and after her she is taken aback by his woeful tactics and although has a reputation as a player her lust for him is intense.

Any additional comments?

Loved the book, mild sexual content (but I like that) and many exciting twists make this an easy book to finish quickly.

Any additional comments?

My review - We are in Sutton Village, England and its the year of 1815.Enter Sassy Winthrop a 21 yr old who is a white witch just coming into her powers. The only persons who know this are her mother who passed away 2 years ago and her now ailing/dying father The Vicar. Sassy keeps having vivid dreams of a man with hair as dark as the night sky and eyes so blue. She doesn't know who the man is or why she is dreaming of him at first. She sees him before she moves away and runs the other way. After Sassy's father passes away she has to move in with her mothers best friend and it is here where Sassy takes on a teaching position at Netherby Halls where things are very evil. So now Sassy must not only protect herself but the girls she teaches at the school. Has her powers strengthened enough and will she know how to use them?Soon Sassy discovers the name of the man who is in her visions is none other than Justin Dartmour. She wants to run away again but something pulls her to Justin. Sassy has heard what others have said about Justin Dartmour that he is a womanizer. Can she grab and hold on to Justin's Heart?

I really enjoy Claudy Conn's books, be they e-book, paper, or audio. This just happens to be an audio book.

Sassy is a white witch of just twenty-one years old, whose powers are still developing, when her world changed forever. Her mother passed on two years ago, now her father, the Vicar of Sussex, has also passed on leaving her without a place to live, as the new Vicar will need the parsonage.

Needing to find stable employment , her mother's friend sends her to Netherby Halls to tutor
and that is when the story turns on a dark journey where things are not what they appear to be and where she meets the Marquis of Dartmour.

The world is consistent, dark, filled with the unexpected, and has tasteful sensuality twisting throughout. I like the light magic in this book.

The characters are well developed, believable, and personable. Sassy is a wonderful character who is strong and courageous. A great characteristic to have.

If you like a side of paranormal with your steamy historical romance, then this book is for you.

White Witch!

Would you consider the audio edition of Netherby Halls to be better than the print version?

No, but I am a book person...this is a new format to me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Netherby Halls?

The dream sequences were well done.

Have you listened to any of Jane Farnham’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this was my first time listening to an audio book. So she will be the one everyone else will be compared to...I thought it was very well done.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

All of Claudy Conn's books illicit some reactions and the narrator did an excellent job of conveying the book's sentiment, I think.

Any additional comments?

I read the book while I listened to the audio book...interesting afternoon. I may do this again!

What is a "mar-KWEES"? This narrator is horrendous

This book is a fun blend of romance and mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot! However, it is fortunate that the story was so wonderful because otherwise I could never have finished listening! I have several thousand books in my library and am very accepting of most narrators BUT narrators should KNOW how to pronounce words. The hero in this story is a marquis. This word has a couple of different pronunciations with the accent on different syllables in English and French but to combine the two into mar-KWEES was intolerable. And the word was used ALOT! Partway throug, an editor must have wandered by her recording booth and cringed because the word got a little better. Also having listened to hundreds of historicals I have NEVER heard the word livery pronounced as LIE-ve-ry regardless of the narrators accent. There are other examples. Her accent was very good for the serving maids but remained the same for the aristocracy. I understand that acting with the voice is the most important part of narrating but couldn't they ask the people to look through the book first and check a dictionary for words they might not be sure of?! Or have an editor check at least the first few paragraphs to insure that one of the most-repeated words in the book is not being completely mangled? I appreciate the speed with which audiobooks are becoming available but narrators must be a bit literate.

Very Enjoyable; Well Written; Great Plot

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, as it was well-written and the narration was perfect. I saw Jane Farnham on BBC a few times. When I saw she had narrated a book, I decided to give it a try. Definitely a winning voice and very pleasant to listen to. Claudy Conn never disappoints with her stories and this is no different. Overall, it was a great listen.

A Wonderful Romance!!!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this audio. It is always cool to listen to it as narrated by the wonderful Jane Farnham!!! Loved the plot. Netherby Halls is a school for orphaned aristocrat girls, but terrible things going on there. Sassy is an orphaned white witch that goes there to work as a teacher there. Justin and his friend Percy are investigating the school. Justin happens to be a warlock who's soul cries out for Sassy. The attraction is hot and steamy. They must learn to love one another so their souls can merge as one. Another wonderful audio by Claudy Conn. I highly recommend this!!!
