About this listen

From Emmy Award-winning author David Quantick, Night Train is a science-fiction horror story like no other.

A woman wakes up, frightened and alone. The room shaking and jumping like it’s alive. The noise is terrifying. Where is she? Stumbling through a door, she realizes she is on a train carriage. A carriage full of the dead. A personal hell unfolding in an apocalyptic future.

This is Night Train, a terrifying ride set on a driverless locomotive, heading for a collision somewhere in the endless night. How did the woman get here? Who is she? And who are the dead?

As our heroine makes her way through the train trying to find out what happened to her, she meets a former strongman, a trained killer, and a collection of strange and terrifying creatures. Each step takes her closer to finding the secret of the Night Train.

Longing to give ten stars to David Quantick

I had listened to a short story Quantick had written, and it was so well written, his words so captivating, I listened to it again immediately, and just had to find out what else he had written. This is the first full length book of his I have read and oh my sweet cinnamon puffs is he amazing!! Imaginative, sophisticated, creative, with multi-dimensional characters, good grief this deserves more stars. Off to my next Quantick book!

Different

Kind of trippy. Kept me listening. Wrapped up decently, but I still want a little more explanation. It's a different twist on the apocalyptic genre. Worth a listen in my opinion.

Meh

The narrator was great. Decent writing but has a weak plot. It falls apart about an hour and a half from the end. It's pretty bad. It leaves a lot of plot holes or unsatisfactorily answers questions. It is extremely reminiscent of "Snowpiercer" without the well thought out delivery of the social commentary that made the movie great. 8/10 for the first 7 hours 3/10 last 1.5 hours.

Awful

From the derivative plot to the "he said/she said" being the only way dialog was expressed, this was pure garbage. I'm so disappointed that this had a stamped approval from Neil Gaiman on the cover when it felt like a loose rip-off of Snowpiercer and a few other prominent novels. It makes me question if he even read it or if it was purely some kind of elitist assumption. I went in thinking it had a cool premise and neat trio of main characters, but everything fell so flat. There were interludes throughout the book that didn't really add anything to the overall plot that gave a false sense of hope that there would be some kind of great reveal at the end that never came. I always try to find something I enjoyed about any book I read or listen to but this one was tough. The narration was okay when sped up a bit which is the only bright spot. All in all, I'm glad I purchased this on sale because it's probably one of the worst I've listened to in a long time. Save your money or credit.

Random Nothingness

This novel is made up of completely random details. Totally meaningless. A cash grab. Avoid it.
