About this listen

It all begins with a decapitated head found at the bottom of a dark well.

Bertram Stone is a former Texas Ranger running from the changes of an ever-evolving world. Horses were being replaced by cars. Laws were changing how Bertram could deliver justice. Wanting to live out his golden years in peace, Stone flees to the quiet town of Hamilton, Texas, where he becomes the local sheriff. In a small town where the law rarely needs enforcing, everything is going according to his plan—until a great evil plunges Hamilton into horror.

On the outskirts of town, in a small community called Deer Hollow, there is a ramshackle cabin where a man lives by the name of Eli Snow. He is a recluse, living away from other people. Nobody knows about the secret terror he has kept hidden away for years. A nightmare that is about to be unleashed.

Entertaining Vampire Novel

A fun vampire book. Was a little reminiscent of Salem's lot. There were some suspenseful and creepy parts. The only real issue I had was characters acting in an unbelievable way during life-threatening situations... example chuckling or abandoning their children with deadly creatures on the loose

Move over Stephen King

all around great book. I love that it took place in the 1920s and the characters were so well described

Strong and relatable small town characters

My wife and I really enjoy this book ! we listened to it in 2 hour intervals to and from our weekly trips to the lake. We couldn't wait for our trips so we could continue this book ! and the narration was top notch ...perfect speed tone and character changes !

Darn good book

I did not have high expectations, I figured I would give it an hour or so and see if I liked it. I ended up thinking it was great. I thought the story was well setup and descriptions and character development were great.

An unexpected horror joy

This one came up in my “you may also enjoy” and boy is that algorithm spot on! I did enjoy this one! I had not been familiar with the author so I went in with no real expectations other than the plot seemed like something I’d like based on the description.
This book was very enjoyable! Great narration brought complex characters to life! The story was rich and intriguing and I feel like this was a unique unfolding of a vampire tale. I was in a book slump when I started this book, I had not had much connection or joy from books I’d been reading right before this one but this one caught my attention immediately and held on! Highly recommend!

Pleasantly Surprised

Wasn’t too sure going in, but it caught me within minutes. I finished it in 2 days. Storyline drew me in and had great character development. Narrator was great.

Compelling Ghoulish Story

I really enjoyed the story. The narration was brilliantly done and the characters were delightfully fleshed out and I really was invested in a bunch of them. I like the story, and the lore, and the university author created. My only complaint is the ending. it just felt very anticlimactic. after so much tension it just felt like a bit of a letdown but that said I enjoyed the story overall and would still recommend.
