About this listen

Book one of the Chronicles of Uriel Ventris

Newly promoted Ultramarines Captain Uriel Ventris is assigned to investigate Pavonis, an Imperial planet plagued by civil disorder and renegade eldar raiders.

Listen to it because: here is where the legend begins: the first mission of Uriel Ventris as captain of the Ultramarines Fourth Company.

The story: newly promoted to the captaincy of the Ultramarines Fourth Company, Uriel Ventris leads his warriors to the world of Pavonis, where vicious alien raiders are bringing death and destruction. Awesome!!!!

Enjoyed it the whole way through. A mix of terror, and Adrenaline mix with Good narration and story. Haven’t read a Warhammer 40k book like this in some time. DWW

Volume between whisper and yelling range is too much

Great story. But volume difference between normal speech and yelling is too extreme. Sometimes within same sentence.

Pretty good for a 40k book

It was pretty good for a 40k book. Felt a little soulless though; never formed a connection to the characters or what they were doing. It read more a genetic action flick. Narration was good.

Fabulous!

I’m just getting started with WH40k novels and this is my second one. I absolutely loved the story, narration and the performance. Great starting point for anyone interested in diving deep into Warhammer 40000 lore!

Excellent narration with good story!

The narrator is new to me, but has impressed me immensely with his voice skills.
The story is exciting at moments, but I found all the "twists, turns, and surprises" to be highly predictable. As far as the Ultramarines, they do what Ultramarines do as always. I found the Arbites to be more human and less "Ultra Chad" than the Astartes. Overall, worth the listen, especially if you like Loyalist Astartes.

New to 40k. Glory to the emperor!

Was recommended this as a good spot start into the 40k universe. It is vivid in a way that I can actually picture it, and kept me awake for most of the drive from Texas to Kansas. Definitely sparks my imagination.
