About this listen

A charming, hilarious, irresistible romp of a novel that brings together nine unrelated women, each touched by the same little black dress that weaves through their lives, bringing a little magic with it.

Natalie is a Bloomingdale's salesgirl mooning over her lawyer ex-boyfriend, who's engaged to someone else after just two months. Felicia has been quietly in love with her boss for 17 years and has one night to finally make the feeling mutual. Andie is a private detective who specializes in gathering evidence on cheating husbands - a skill she unfortunately learned from her own life - and lands a case that may restore her faith in true love. For these three women, as well as half a dozen others in sparkling supporting roles - a young model fresh from rural Alabama; a diva Hollywood star making her Broadway debut; and an overachieving, unemployed Brown grad who starts faking a fabulous life on social media, to name just a few - everything is about to change thanks to the dress of the season, the perfect little black number everyone wants to get their hands on....

Critic reviews

"In her warm and witty debut novel, Jane L. Rosen writes a love letter to New York City and the tapestry of women who come here with high hopes and big dreams. A little black dress hasn't gotten this much attention since Breakfast at Tiffany's. Whether you're in a stylish sheath or your flannel pajamas, this book will make you feel like a million bucks." (Katie Couric)
"Sweet, delicious, the perfect summer read about the perfect black dress." (Jo Piazza and Lucy Sykes, authors of The Knockoff)

So, I was a skeptic...sounded like "Love, Actually" and the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" collided. Throw in a cast of narrators and I was ALMOST out. But, I heard the sample and needed to hear what happened next. The book did not disappoint as more and more lovely stories wove together to create this wonderful tapestry.

Don't be a skeptic, hit the "Buy" button. Your only regret will be when it ends and the characters you enjoy no longer have a story to share with you. I popped my earbuds in and finished this one in a single sitting. That my friends, is a good book worthy of a gushy review.

Enjoy!

I didn't do much research before buying this, so I didn't really know what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised. Loved the full cast concept! If you're looking for a light and fun read with barely any cuss words, try One Dress Nine Women!

Any additional comments?

This is a good "light" read. There are many different characters and, all are interesting but the author doesn't go into too much depth with any of them. I finished the book pretty quick so, that is a selling point.

Good Summer Read

This collection of charming and delicious stories is crafted so beautifully. It is full of humor, heartbreak, snark, and sharp observations about human beings' motivation and emotions. Its cast of diverse characters are a delight and the narrators are perfectly cast to bring them to life. This book is addictive to listen to, and, ultimately, very satisfying.

Perfectly woven story, silk-smooth narration
