About this listen

Humans—unmodified humans—are no longer dominant on Earth. In their place, the transhuman Bionics are using microscopic nanobots to adjust their genes, reshape their bodies, and perhaps even change human nature itself. Only in a few traditionalist communities do people attempt to live as they have in the past, resisting the allure of this new technology.

In Petram, one such oasis, 17-year-old Agnes just wants to live in peace. But when her friends and then her family start to disappear, she knows that the time for complacency is over. Agnes must reunite her family and convince the rest of Petram to stand up to the Bionics. This takes her on a journey deep into the center of the Bionics' power, the futuristic city of Nissus. Here, she discovers a surprising and troubling new world, where the Bionics seem to be able to control everything: weather, animals, perhaps even her own mind.

Agnes is ready to fight for her home, but soon faces uncomfortable truths about what it will take. Will she truly do anything to save Petram?

Powerful!!!

I find it is interesting, that there are thousands of books in the dystopian/apocolyptic genres, yet almost none discussing a move towards Utopia. It's all about control, obfuscation, and tyranny. Where individuals must be controlled, or they will result to chaos and murder. Are we really so incapable of imagining a future, when our emotional intelligence is lifted to a place of higher importance? Well, it will remain impossible, if we can not collectively dream it into existence. In these changing times, it was truly wonderful to see some speculative fiction that explores what the future could hold, and not have it be horrible. I am thankful for this book, for it's wonderful characters...I kept waiting for the shoe to drop, for it all to go hideously wrong, thank you, for not doing that Carl. The epilogue spoke to my heart and spirit. Please, continue this beautiful journey for us. Let's turn our philosophies towards wonderful change.

Great story

I enjoyed the world building and the whole idea! I keep thinking about the implications of the mites and all the good and bad that could come about. I hope there are more stories to follow!!
The narrators were great and the presentation was engaging.
