About this listen
During a cross border shopping trip, a family vanishes. No reason. No ransom. No cry for help. Bus driver Wallace Carver fears the worst when his family fails to meet him at the Bellingham, Washington mall. His anxiety is justifiably heightened when security cameras unexplainably show that he crossed the Peace Arch border alone. Now, all Wallace wants to do is get his wife and sons back. But first he has to work out why they were taken and by whom.

Story
Ian Quinn's day begins with an anonymous death threat. Nothing that’s new when you’re a court-ordered child protection officer. But the threat is nothing compared to the envelope stuffed into his hand by a foul-smelling vagrant who mutters the cryptic message 'he says he's sorry' before scurrying away. The envelope with his name scrawled across the front contains a lone visitor's pass to the Oregon State Penitentiary, and the accompanying message fills Ian's heart with revulsion. The author of the note destroyed Ian's life.

Editorial reviews
Narrator Noah Michael Levine's dark-toned performance underscores the menace in this unpredictable thriller. Canadian bus driver Wallace Carver has taken his family on a cross-border shopping trip and everything goes smoothly until his wife and children fail to show up at the designated time at a mall in Bellingham, Washington. Levine uses pacing to intensify the mounting tension and anxiety as Carver discovers that all traces of his family have been removed back home. Now with only his best friend Crow Joe to help him, Wallace must find out what has happened to his family and why.

Loved the characters
it was a little slow getting into it, but the plot was well developed and kept me guessing. I loved how the main character was an ordinary guy with great character and determination.

Unexpected Favorite
My mind was going all over the place trying to figure out WHY someone would steal this man's family, right out from under his nose, at a shopping mall, of all things . . . this unassuming, kind bus driver from Canada, who wanted nothing more than to take his wife and boys on a little trip across the border to the states . . . money was always tight, but hey, who cared . . . Wallace Carver knew what really mattered. And then . . . BOOM! Out of nowhere, his whole world, GONE. Nobody will listen. Nobody will help. And worst, they suspect him. And a security camera shows him crossing the Canadian border alone? Impossible . . . Who's behind this mess? And why? Even I would start to think I was going insane . . . not this man . . . and not his best friend, Crow . . . this is the BEST thriller I've read/listened to in a good long while . . . its not cuss free, I have to tell you . . . but neither would I be . . . when evil came to knock on this simple, loving family man's door, he reciprocated, in spades . . . and by the way, I thought the end of Chapter 71 was PERFECT . . . the whole book will stick with me for a very long time . . .

A solid middle of the road thriller
It’s not a bad story but I found it to be a little slow. I got it free today on kindle and payed an extra $1.99 to add audible. For that price I felt like it was okay but the overall reveal was a little bit of a letdown. I also found the pace and voice a little plodding and wound up spreading it up to 1.25 in order to get through it. I felt like it would have been one of those really unbelievable action films where an ordinary person goes all DieHard to save his family. More then a little unbelievable that he makes his way through a bunch of elite military types to save his family with no training, experience, and a bumb leg.

I Demand A Re-Write to Chapter 71! Grrrrrrrr...😡😖
Any additional comments?
This is such a fantastic WTF is going on mystery, bound with nerve-shaking-suspense, and heart thumping action!
I was completely blown away when the mystery was solved! I honestly listened to this audio in one sitting!! Yep, it was that good!!!
The only reason I did not give this an overall 5 stars is because of the total TEASE of brutal, animalistic, raunchy, dirty, knock down, fight to the excruciating death between two hardened warriors in Chapter 71.
************SPOILER ALERT*************
Mr. McKenzie ripped my anxious and excited heart out by its root by completely ending that scene the way he did. I mean, he built that scene up beautifully.
Through out the whole story it was about a man, a regular man fighting for his family against warriors and though entertaining, it's not the same when two warriors who are equally match go to war!! And I was ready for that one on one. Just broke my heart, how he ended that scene!!
Also, I wished there had been a scene where those detectives and men in black d*ck heads had had to apologize (you'll just have to read to know who I'm talking about).
**************SPOILER ALERT END*******
So, I loved the performance and the story was an extremely well written, action suspense, mystery thriller, well worth the listen!!!!
