About this listen

When you're the best at what you do, it's not always easy to walk away. Nathan McBride was retired. The trained Marine sniper and covert CIA operative had put the violence of his former life behind him. But not anymore. A deep-cover FBI agent has disappeared along with one ton of powerful Semtex explosive, enough to unleash a disaster of international proportions.

The U.S. government has no choice but to coax Nathan out of retirement. He's the only man with the skills necessary to get the job done. But almost as soon as Nathan reluctantly accepts the assignment, he finds himself caught in the middle. On the one side is a ruthless adversary with a blood-chilling plan - and on the other are agents who will stop at nothing to see their own brand of justice done.

Where have you been andrew peterson ???!!!

I absolutely could not stop listening to this book. Dick Hill as the narrator was the icing on the cake. The combination was perfect. The book was far fetched yet chillingly realistic what more could you ask from fiction.Yep its fiction folks....if you want totally realistic read the paper there is enough out there to keep you happy. The characters were fun and I think I am in love with Nathan. Look out Jack Reacher you have competition. All I can say is. Bring on the next in the series I will be the first in line downloading it.

"AWESOME"

I mean "Awesome" in the old definition! Not like "Awesome book dude" but more like "Awesome like looking at the moon". Because of the excellent writing and narration it makes you forget your listening and makes you feel like you're actually part of the scene. I had to sit in my driveway for the last 45 minutes cuz I couldn't wait until the next day. I hope he continues this as a series. Must read!

Good guys with dark pasts who merit our respect

I love how fully-fleshed the main characters, Nathan and Harv, are. They have been friends forever, and served together through some tough Marines stuff, then through an even more serious life-or-death situation which has shaped the current Nathan. He is tough and expert, but still flawed and believable and battling demons.

Money, guns, semtex--tons of it-- greed, corruption, family issues, lots of bodies, all here. I don't know if things actually would work out this way or not, with the FBI allowing former spec-ops snipers to take the lead on the biggest case in the nation at the time, but my ignorance allows me to just enjoy it. And these bad guys are seriously bad. They don't even have religion as a motivator. There is far more going on in the plot than just the good guys hunting the bad guys before they get killed first (cue the title) which makes you shake your head at politicians. I loved this book.

It must be a thing-this Latino side-kick pair. Jack Ryan has one.

The narrator is fantastic. His best voices are the inbred bad guys and Harv, although the other men are great too. His women are a little off, but oh well. The funny thing is, the narrator has this annoying habit of speaking till he has to squeeze out the air in his lungs to finish the sentence. It is so annoying I wanted to give him one star, but his performance of the men's voices, the screaming and crying under torture, the anguish of losing a loved one, are just superb.

These guys are far more likable than Victor the Assassin. They remind me a bit of The Gray Man, Will Robie, and Robin Monarch. All guys I would like around in times of trouble. The stories in this series are blunt, but excellent.

Great Characters and great Narrator

Would you listen to First to Kill again? Why?

I would certainly listen to this book again. There were a lot of interesting characters that I think I could learn more about by listening again.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters and the action. There was always something interesting going on.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dick Hill is my favorite audio book Narrator/Actor. He is always great, and this time is no exception.

Any additional comments?

Just had to purchase Forced to Kill.

would be 5 stars with a performer who had breath

the narrator ran out of breath constantly, ruining a great story with bizarre inflections. good plot, fast paced and some good twists

one of those stories that if you're listening to while driving, and you get to your destination, you sit in the car until the end of the chapter.

Thoroughly Enjoyed

Great storyline, narrator, a nice blend of believability with a fast pace and few slow areas.
I really want to listen to more from this author.
