To strange for me and difficult to follow. The did not feel gripped by the story at all. No McBride best I must say.

Stuart MacBride has been one of my favorite authors for years, every book release a cause for celebration and multiple readings. I don’t even know what to say about this one. Usually the gruesome aspects of his books were offset by the imperfect but likeable, ultimately moral central characters (Oh for one divine moment of Logan MacCrea!!!) His books were laced with large doses of dark humor that had me laughing out loud and full of quotes worth saving and repeating. This one is relentlessly dark, humorless and confusing to the point of being incomprehensible. Plotting is absolute madness, taking to new outer space frontiers the device of the unreliable narrator. It’s the one and only MacBride (is this really MacBride?) book that I was barely able to finish. Let’s hope it’s just a blip in an otherwise wonderful catalogue.

What the Bleep Was That?

It starts out normal, introducing Lucy and her funny sidekick Dunc, but 2/3 of the way thru turns into complete fantasy. Multiple storylines left hanging. I have no idea who the various killers actually were. I love Stuart's books but that was truly awful. Great narration tho!

Incomprehensible

If you’re listening to a book set in Scotland it has to be narrated in a true Scottish voice. Cathleen McCarron nails it. The twist in the storyline is a bit hard to take at first but by the end it works well and will hopefully be the first of many with these characters.

I did not care for the direction that this story took. That does not mean it isn’t a well written book or even a clever story. It simply wasn’t to my taste. If you were looking for something by this author, that is slightly different from his other books, this might be for you. The characters were engaging as usual. I simply found it a bit ridiculous

Started strong but…

I gave up after two hours. I could no longer stand the narrator turning every sentence into a breathy, OMG, something is happening suspenseful statement. It was just hideous. I’m so disappointed as I have thoroughly enjoyed MacBrides previous books and was looking forward to another thriller. Please bring back Steve Worsley or Ian Hanmore.
