About this listen

He needs to find his father.

Dr. Nate Hunter simply wants to be left alone in his lab, but the disappearance of his father in the Alaskan bush makes that an impossibility. When Nate finds coordinates tucked away in his dad's papers, he has to take the investigation into his own hands to protect his family.

She needs to find a killer.

State trooper Freya Ashby already has a lot on her plate when she and her avalanche rescue K9, Xena, are assigned to Dr. William Hunter's disappearance. His son, Nate, is her last one-night stand and a complication she doesn’t need…especially after she finds him standing over a dead man.

They are racing against the clock.

Battling the dangerous geography and an attraction that could derail them both, Nate and Freya must find Dr. Hunter before the trail goes as cold as the terrain. But as the clues pile up and point towards soft-spoken and insanely sexy Dr. Nathaniel Hunter, Freya has to decide if he is the killer…or the killer's next target?

More Trouble in Alaska!

Another great story for the series! Plenty of thrills and horrible things happening to the lovable characters. I really liked how Nate was a type of gentle giant, despite the dysfunction of growing up with his brothers. And I liked Freya's backstory as well, from how she became a SAR agent and how she deals with relationships. The story flowed differently for this one than the last because it felt like the first half was glacier adventures and the second half was murders with only the smallest of tie-ends at the end. I still like the story, but reflecting on it, the two separate halves of the story just don't fit perfectly together. I'll still finish the series because I'm invested in this dysfunctional family and their adorable dogs.
This story has swearing, steam, and some violence, with a bit of gore. And this one, no dogs are harmed on page, plus puppies!
This is the second book in the series, and technically has a self-contained story, but the overall plot of the series will be missed if the first book isn't enjoyed before this one.

I liked the narrator! He does a good job with the characters, giving them personalities and differentiating between the voices. I believe he narrated the previous story in the series as well, and I do like when the narrators are consistent within a series.

A great addition to the series

In this audiobook, we are back in Alaska in this second story of the series. A series about 3 brothers searching for their missing father, Dr. William Hunter. This time the story belongs to Dr. Nate Hunter.
Though he just wants to spend his days in his lab, when he finds some coordinates in his father’s papers, he decides to investigate. Hoping it will help find his Dad.
Freya Ashby is a K-9 state trooper and the one investigating the disappearance of Dr. Hunter.
Imagine her surprise when she realizes her one night stand is Nate.
Even though the attraction is there, they join forces. But what happens when the clues point to Nate as being the one responsible for the disappearance?
This suspense romance was action packed, and more questions than answers arise.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook by StoryOrigin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Action and flawed characters

Northern Deception was a great mix of action and character development. The characters had more flaws than the typical romantic suspense. It could be read as a stand alone, but it does seem that this book builds upon the events of the first book and it sets up the next book with a preview epilogue. I'd give the story 4.5 stars. I'm not sure how I feel about the third brother (another flawed character), but I would be interested in listening to his book.

I listened to the audio version narrated by Stephen Borne. He was easy to listen to and did well voicing the male and female parts. The story is written in third person so a single narrator works well even though the points of view change throughout the story.

I received a copy of the audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.

Romantic suspense in Alaska

Another great book based in the Alaskan wilderness. Nate and Freya had a one night stand and are both determined to try and forget it. They are involved in the search for Nate’s dad. There are many twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the book. Stephen Borne was absolutely phenomenal in his portrayal of all the characters. I received this audiobook for free upon my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review.

Amazing narration from Stephen Borne

We have two people who don't know that they are looking for love but also action, danger, suspense, and mysteries.
Nate is very handsome, and protective, but with a a soft centre. He is shocked to find his sexy one night stand is a State Trooper Freya Ashley. She is the cop in charge of finding his missing father. With her own back story. This takes place in Alaska, and action-packed with lots of suspense.

The story flowed effortlessly

My review for this book is very similar to the first book.
The story continues nicely from the first book, yet it can be read as a stand-alone too. Intriguing main characters. The story flowed effortlessly, and it kept me engaged the whole time. Stephen Borne was perfect for this book.
However, I didn't enjoy so many paid assassins and so many near-death experiences.
Thank you for making this book in audio.

Awesome romantic suspense

Tonya Burrows has written a fabulous romantic suspense masterpiece with Northern Deception. I was glued to the book from the beginning. I could not put it down. This is the second book in this series, and Nate is continuing the search for his father. State Trooper Freya is investigating the case. Nate looks suspicious, but she can’t completely believe that he is guilty. She continues to be drawn to him after their one night stand. This story is full of twists and turns, and it kept me in the edge of my seat. I loved it. Tonya Burrows writes excellent characters, and you can’t help but root for them. Nate and Freya’s chemistry is off the charts, and their love story has a sweetness to it. I can’t wait to see how the plot works it with the final brother’s story. I’ll be counting down the days until the next book!

Learning to Love

Freya and Nate are fated but they are the only ones who are determined they’ll always be single. Nate is searching for his father and trying to protect his family. Freya is trying to solve all the things going on in the community but also figure out what Nate is hiding. This one is full of suspense and intrigue. I couldn’t stop listening to this one and I can’t wait to start the last book in the series to finally get all the questions answered. I loved the strong characters who don’t let life hold them down and the dogs always make me happy!

A thrilling romantic suspense.

Book 2. I have not read Book 1 or 3. Not sure if it matters.
I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. I am a little surprised the narrator is male when I feel the main character is actually female. Freya, the police detective. But he did a great job of presenting this thrilling romantic suspense. Lots of danger. An avalanche. An ice cave. Lots of mutilated bodies. Also lots of steam. Cute and smart dogs. And complicated family dynamics.
4 stars for the story. 4 stars for the narrator.
