About this listen

Kylie Maynard wants to make the world a better place - and she’s willing to break the rules to do it. This spunky Boston millennial struggles with independence and relationship issues, while trying to solve a heinous crime through her tech start-up called OMG.

The ambitious entrepreneur has just conceived a hacking program to elect her idol to the senate and save the environment. Her startup idea, called OMG, will be akin to a Ouija Board on steroids, with massive spying fingers. There’s just one problem: finding the right developer to build it.

While plotting her scheme in a coffee shop, a dubious programmer named Simon sees Kylie’s idea through Wi-Fi and applies for the job of building it. Kylie is more worried about her parents than hackers and avoids them.

They have no idea she’s blown half her trust fund on her business. But when Kylie begins to doubt Simon’s loyalty, she hires an attractive Russian encryption expert and uncovers a conspiracy to unleash a biological weapon in Boston. She works with the FBI and survives being kidnapped, burglarized, and attacked as she struggles with her trust issues.

Reminded me of Robert Parker

If you liked Robert Parker, you'll love this book. She has come up with characters and a plot that brought me back to how I used to feel reading the Spencer series. The references to local landmarks, the clever dialog, the characters, the plot twists all left me wanting more.
Without giving away too much, Kylie, the main character, creates/acquires software that gives her something like a superpower, a sort of Super Google that gets her a whole lot of information about the names she enters. This device leads to the inevitable struggle between good and evil, and along the way you grow to love the flawed characters who you weren't too sure of in the beginning, as they grow, a little at least.
Let me just say that the experience of this book is like those little green foil wrapped chocolate mints that come with the check in nicer restaurants, they are intensely satisfying and then they are gone, leaving you wanting more.

An exciting tale of future tech dangers.

OMG is a fast paced novel about a tech startup, and is also a lesson on the dangerous side of our changing tech-dependent world. It also is an interesting exploration of some of the psychological issues of our new world. OMG is an engaging story and a window into the world of tech startup and what happens when powerful technology gets into the hands of bad people.
