Publisher's summary

Oscar night.

Rock star legend, Ashland Keys should be on top of the world, but the blond blue-eyed SoCal surfer is disillusioned with fame, done with drugs, bored with the groupies, and sick of all the fake f--ckery.

A rising star, Fanny Bay is nominated for best original song in the same category as the Dirt Dogs band, but the novel redhead with the corkscrew curls and the slight Canadian accent would prefer to chart a course with a different destination.

Hollywood is not for her.

He’s full of regrets, darkness, and secrets. She’s full of hope and light and has mysteries of her own.

He’s her reserved hero. She’s his gypsy rose.

He’s water. She’s fire.

Together, they don’t make sense. But he’s what she’s always wanted, and she just might be everything he needs.

Mixed feelings

The first part was so sad, and it made me so angry with Fanny. I have issues with abusive relationships. Also her name is really cheesy. Fanny Bay. I just couldn’t get into her as a lead. The narration was good. Overall, it was a good listen, not awesomely great, but worth it. The writing was lagging in some areas, I wished the pace of the book was faster. I haven’t read the others in this series, so you can read it standalone, but you’ll probably want to read the others first.

Powerful

I loved this book. Love the messages she had behind this book. I was nervous reading this book because of the condition of one of the main character, but the author weaved such a wonderful story that his status wasn't important anymore. She taught a very valuable lesson. I learned about second chances and that people make mistake and shouldn't have to live under the microscope of that forever. I learned on how people use control as a coping mechanism. Overall this book was wonderful and the narrators are too of my favorites.

I love this series!

This a wonderful second chance at love story. It’s filled with some sadness a touch of angst and loads of charm. The topics addressed in this story are very real and its important to be able to see how some people might deal with these issues. I’m excited about reading/listening to the next book in this series. The narration was brilliant as always

A Unique Rock Star Romance

This was an emotional rock star, age gap, and second chance romance. I hadn't read or listened to the previous 2 books and will admit to being a bit confused at first by all the different characters and their extensive histories. Fans of the series will enjoy the appearances and updates on the previous couples though. There was a lot to keep track of at first, but once things got going and focused more on Ash and Fanny, I definitely got more invested in the story. Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross were fantastic as usual and really added a lot of depth and emotion. They helped capture all the vulnerability, heartache, and fear that our characters experience.

Mankin tackled some very serious subjects in this romance and I really applaud how realistic and honest she was with Ash's diagnosis and how it would affect and limit Ash and Fanny's future. I also liked how the author addressed the idea of love and sexuality. Ash's explanation to Fanny about falling in love with someone's soul (regardless of whether they are male or female) was really beautiful. I do wish Ash wouldn't have referred to Fanny as 'little one' so much though. It felt more icky than cute to me. The book did feel a little long at times, which caused it to lose some of its momentum and direction, but overall, I enjoyed this slow burn romance. The epilogue (which is included in the ebook) was really sweet and set the stage for the next 2 books in the series.

Such an amazing story!

Each story in this series is so full of hope and emotion that I am fulfilled when the book ends! Michelle Mankin has let us get to know Ashland, the drummer for the dirty dogs. He is a complex man, not just a hot rock star and loves hard when he falls. Fanny is an up and coming singer and when she meets Ash, their attraction is instant. But when Ash doesn't show up for a date, Fanny moves on. Now 2 years later, on the run with her sister, Fanny finds herself in the arms of Ash. Will this second chance find their happily ever after? Michelle Mankin writes a provocative story. She includes managing a lifelong illness, as well as dealing with abusive parents. We even get a touch of mental illness, all things that are too prevalent in today's world and are sensitively approached in the story. I love the ensemble cast with Linc, Simone, Ramon and Karen along with Ash, Fanny and Holly creating that feeling of love and family. It's a great story and finishes the trilogy beautifully.

Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross created the characters in this trilogy and with their talent kept the consistency of voices in all three books. It made the story a pleasure to listen to knowing which character is speaking. This duo continually brings their "A" game to the story and keeps a listener glued to their earbuds.

Great Read

Oceanside (Rock Stars, Surf and Second Chances #3) by Michelle Mankin was a great read. I absolutely loved reading Ashland and Fanny's story. They met years before on the Oscar night they were both up for nomination at. After that night everything changes for them. I absolutely loved Ashland and Fanny and can't wait to read more by Michelle Mankin.

Famous chemistry

I love this series and Michelle’s stories. I liked that both characters were famous. I actually gasped when I realized the connection of Fannie to the last story. I love it when the writer prepares you for the next book without you realizing it. Wait did that just happen again? Lol Ash is so freaking hot! So in the story I was hoping for a little more grit in the stepfather issue for the length of the story. Aside from that this a total recommendation. Kai and Wen are awesome as always, love the sound effects too.

Entertaining voices that gave life to the story!

Oceanside by Michelle Mankin will take you to Ocean Beach California where you will experience heart stopping emotions, lots of drama, suspense, secrets, and steamy love scenes. The writing in this book is so good and so detailed that it plays out like a real movie and yet reads like a poem because it has the most beautiful symbolism.
Meet Ashland Keys-Ash, he will unveil himself layer by layer-he is like an onion. Ash is super protective and hiding away from his problems.
Meet Fanny she is super cute, sweet- she will steal your heart, and she is running from  problems of her own. When these two unite there is such a connection, they are so similar in so many ways. The characters are so real and relatable.
This is a beautiful story of what happens when you open your heart-- you find true loyalty, friendship and love. 5 big surf stars!!!!!

Awesome Book

I love Ash. This read had me from the start. The way all of the characters developed was perfect. There was also a perfect blend of surfing and rockstars. The story had me smiling, crying sometimes wanting to wring someones neck. Great job Michelle!
