About this listen

Magic runs in the Drakara bloodline. To 17-year-old Ilianna it’s a curse. Born a bastard and raised by an abusive uncle, she struggles to conceal her late-bloomed gifts, but it’s hard to hide when your uncle is king.

The kingdom of Eira recovers from over a decade of warring an overseas enemy. Ilianna trains from youth to fight in her uncle’s militia, to keep her people from the grip of the Wraith Queen, even if she’s feared by everyone except the one that controls her. When it seems that peace is assured, her uncle offers her up to be married to their neighboring realm. However, Ilianna has no intention of accepting and flees the king’s rule only to wind up captured by the very enemy she was promised to.

Prince Castiel, a powerful leader and cunning strategist, recognizes a disguised Ilianna the moment he sees her. When his strange prison guest does nothing but patiently wait for three long months, he forces her to make her move. Ilianna must tame her fears and control a rogue power before her uncle kills her for disobedience or worse, reclaims her and her magic.

Such an amazing world to get lost in!

And so well written! The author, Rachel Collett, did it again! This is such a captivating and creative world to get lost in. The story is amazing, the depth of the characters and the world they live in makes you fall in love with them and each of their quests! The main character is inspiring and the main love story is one we all want! Prince Castiel is dream worthy and the power, magic, troubled histories of the characters along with the many layers of their plight is definitely worth experiencing! The author did an incredible job in her writing, on top of creating one of my favorite fictional worlds, thus far! I immediately had to read the second book in the series after finishing the first, and then I read them both all over again because I didn’t want the story to end! A definite must in your collection! I would recommend this author as well as this series, you won’t regret it!

So Well Done - Should be a best seller!

This is a great fantasy romance book! Better than some of the “top sellers” I’ve read over the last couple of years. I’m a picky reader and don’t tolerate less than ideal writing or over descriptive nonsense so a five star rating in this genre is a rare gift from me. The characters are strong, the world development and plot fabulous, and it will leave you eager to read book 2! There is some steamy (but clean) romance but plenty of action and world development as well. Also, the audio version is really well done - though I was skeptical for the first chapter, but Susan Knight pulled it off. So yes! Read or listen to this book! Rachel Collett is definitely on my writers to follow list!
