About this listen

Zera is a Heartless - the immortal, unaging soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger, Zera longs for freedom from the woods in which they hide. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger's control, she serves the witch unquestioningly. Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a prince's heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum: If she's discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy Zera's heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d'Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him - every Tudor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him - until the arrival of Lady Zera. She's inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The prince's honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all. Winner takes the loser's heart - literally.

I loved everything about this book! It was intense, funny, sweet, and interesting. I liked the way she chose to show witches, it was interesting. The two main characters were so complex and brilliantly written together. It reminded me of the first book in Throne of Glass series. It had that same action and sarcasm! THAT ENDING! I need the second book RIGHT NOW!

FANTASTIC!

I was a little worried starting this because I thought the narrator sounded like they had some weird inflections & might have been a bit flat. However, while that is all true, it actually doesn’t detract from the story much. I got used to it (and used my imagination as well) and it was a very enjoyable listen.

Better than expected

Interesting story but the narrator was hard to listen too. She ended each sentence like she was unsure or it was a question. I f you can see past the narrator's reading style, then the story was entertaining.

Narrator was hard to listen to

I can’t quite decide if I like the speaker. Her male voices are good. I find the main character with her soso, but at the same time we talk about a ‘heartless’ person, so her tonality does make sense.

Great find, really liked this. A reread would be the book

I didn't really like it. The narrator was even worse than the story. This book was too loud.

it was okay
