Publisher's summary

To save her world, she must sacrifice everything she holds dear.

Despite descending from a long line of powerful sorcerers, Vi Solaris lacked all magic. That is, until the day she manifested a powerful sorcery unlike any other.

Now, a sorcerer from a distant land tells her she must leave her home to claim her true power as champion of the goddess. That the mysterious plague ripping through her empire is the first warning an ancient evil threatens to rise anew. And that she is the only one who can put a stop to it.

Making matters worse, her empire falters under political turmoil, and her disappearance as the crown princess might just be what causes it to buckle. Assassins anointed by the evil she seeks to thwart hunt her relentlessly. And, despite herself, she's falling for that charming sorcerer with pointed ears and haunted eyes as he trains her in secret.

Vi embarks on a perilous journey across land and sea that will unveil shocking truths about her dying world, explore the mysteries of primordial magic, and have her fighting for the one thing that remains when all else is lost: love. Love for her home, her family, her duty, and for the man who will stay at her side until the world's end.

Vortex Chronicles is perfect for young-adult epic-fantasy fans who love sweeping adventures, coming-of-age stories, sword and sorcery, thrilling magic, slow-burn romance that doesn't overwhelm the main plot, and hope prevailing—all tied up with a happily ever after. Fans of Victoria Aveyard, Leigh Bardugo, and Alexandra Bracken are sure to be delighted by Vortex Chronicles.

Slow start

After a slow start in book 1, the series got better than I believed it was going to be. I initially believed it to be a simple love story that blew up into something far bigger. 2 thumbs up.

I loved the character development!

It was a great series! Unexpected twists and turns! It was great how Elise tied it together with the Wind Walker Series!

Characters and food plot

I Loved the depth of the characters. Her ability to overlap timelines without resulting in confusion for the reader was amazing.

Such a great follow on to the original story

First of all the change in narrator was strange. I started this immediately after finishing Air Awakens. That being said I loved the story and seeing just how everything evolved and concluded. I would have loved to see a longer epilogue, but the time spent traveling the lines of fate made the ending that much sweeter.

If you can get through the first couple of hours

If you can get through the first couple of hours of narration, the narrator does get better. It was good. Help me captivate the whole way. A little frustrating with all the challenges she kept facing over and over again. I will admit in the beginning I wanted more of her parents and their relationship. I wasn’t ready to let them go. But Vi grew on me quickly and I because absorbed in her only. Good series. Will recommend.

The world building

I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read The Air Awakens before. Since this becomes a SPOILER********

time travel story, it would have been better to read the original first. It was good, but Vi and the ML are a bit whiny

.

The MC's voice is excellent, but not so much for other characters due to their mixed, confusing accents. I can't get over how Vi and Taavant got together so quickly with little explanation initially. It is quite jarring, although we understand more of their relationships later on that's beyond time and space. I wish there were more explanations about their attraction toward each other.

stunning

As usual Kova created a world that fully sucks you in and the journey it takes you on is amazing. Her books are beyond creative and captivating. How she manages to keep the time lines so unique yet overlapping is a true magic. I wholeheartedly recommend her books not just this series but all of them.
