About this listen
There isn't a rule out there that love won't break. For better or worse.
Turning his back on his reckless lifestyle, former frat boy Clay Walsh has settled down to run an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town... and to pursue lofty and outdated theories on love and romance. But when Amber Hewson, a free-spirited woman with a gypsy soul, rents the apartment above his shop, Clay can't help being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Amber also finds herself surprisingly drawn to Clay, but his ideas about relationships are unusual to say the least, and they bring to light her own deep wounds and fears about love.
They say opposites attract, but can Clay and Amber move beyond their differences and their pasts to attempt an "old fashioned" courtship?

Story
The biggest thing to happen to Skary, Indiana, is renowned horror novelist Wolfe Boone, or "Boo" as the locals fondly call him. For the past 16 years, the reclusive writer has been the town's greatest attraction, having unintentionally turned the once struggling Skary into a thriving tourist trap for the dark side.
But when a newly reformed Wolfe suddenly quits the genre and subsequently starts to pursue Skary's favorite girl-next-door, Ainsley Parker, the little town becomes truly horrified.

Story
Since she was just a little girl, Jessie Stone has dreamed up hundreds of marriage proposals and fantasized about wedding dresses and falling in love. She’s been a bridesmaid nearly a dozen times, waved numerous couples off to sunny honey-moons, and shopped in more department stores for half-price fondue pots than she cares to remember. But shopping for one key component in her own happily ever after hasn’t been as productive–a future husband. The man she thought she would marry cheated on her. The crush she has on her best friend Blake is at very best…well, crushing.

Story
Fashion is a fickle industry, a frightening fact for 24-year-old model Ivy Clark. Ten years in and she’s learned a sacred truth - appearance is everything. Nobody cares about her broken past as long as she looks beautiful for the camera. This is the only life Ivy knows - so when it starts to unravel, she’ll do anything to hold on. Even if that means moving to the quaint island town of Greenbrier, South Carolina, to be the new face of her stepmother’s bridal wear line - an irony too rich for words, since Ivy is far from the pure bride in white.

Amazing!
I absolutely love this book. It is definitely my favorite book. I recommend watching the movie first, read the book and then watch the movie again inorder to fully grasp this wonderful story. I feel as if the movie gives visual aid to to the story, helping you to better understand certain aspects while the book gives more backstory.

I am a grown man, and I loved this story
Would you listen to Old Fashioned again? Why?
Absolutely. It was a beautifully written book that gives you hope for relationships and inspires you, as a man, to aspire to something more. The reader does a FANTASTIC job using inflection and different voices to make the story unique and beautiful.
What did you like best about this story?
That it is a hopeful story that is neither condemning nor permissive. As a guy, it inspires me to hold onto boundaries and to treat women with respect and dignity. It is a beautiful story that runs completely contrary to the modus operandi of romance movies/stories these days. I frankly hate romance books, but I loved this story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The main character Clay's story largely mirrored my own. I love the different threads that run through the story and how neither the characters nor the story are one dimensional.

Loved, loved the movie and loved the audiobook
I have watched the movie old-fashioned at least 10 times, it's one of my all-time favorites, and I finally listened to the audio book and loved that also! I gave the performance 4 stars rather than 5, only because there were times during the reading it was challenging to figure out the voices and to know which character was supposed to be speaking.
