When family is on the line, there’s nothing defense attorney Doug Morrison won’t do. He’ll even go to the detective who put his father away for help in proving his innocence. When the driven omega meets the strong, crafty alpha, will their passion burn too bright to keep them on the case?
Defense attorney Doug Morrison is very good at his job. After his father is convicted in a series of gruesome murders, Doug takes it upon himself to save the man who’s given him everything. When he finds evidence his father was someplace else for some of the crimes, he seeks out the detective who initially got his father convicted.
Ray Langer is a laid-back sort of alpha, but he’s very good at his job. He knows the evidence was good when it came to the Morrison case - until Morrison’s gorgeous, confident omega son shows up with evidence that chips away at his case, little by little.
Ray agrees to work with Doug to get to the bottom of the issue. When an evening of passion turns into an accidental claim, they’re left with questions and fears. Can Ray continue to investigate his mate’s father without a conflict of interest? Can Doug defend a man who his alpha arrested?
Together, they need to get to figure out not only what the claim means for them, but who committed the murders attributed to Doug’s father. Somewhere out there, someone is getting away with murder.

The narration was a bit different. It was a little slow but I adjusted and enjoyed it a lot.

However, I really encourage everyone to listen to the audio sample. The narrator spoke so slowly and stilted, and there were many random skips in the audio itself. I had to listen at 1.5x speed and it was. Still. So. Stilted. He would… talk. Like…. This. A lot. He did voices well enough, but the pauses between words were so distracting it took me days to muscle through.
Story was great, narrator… not so much

As with every story by Aiden Bates, there is love and romance. There is another strain of love in this volume... the love of a parent for their child. Very well done, and I wish every child could have such unconditional love.
The story follows a cold case detective who gets brought into an active case. The serial killer has been in a maximum custody prison. Why are women still being murdered? New evidence has been uncovered, old witnesses have a change of perspective. A bright new defense lawyer has a fresh look at the killer.
A narrator can bring a story to brilliant life. They can also stall the rhythm. John Hong has a lovely voice, and is pretty good with accents and characterization. What I had a very difficult time with is his speach cadence. There is a pause after almost every phrase ( or word) that my ear interprets as the end of a sentence. It made for a very choppy narration. Example: It. Could happen. To you. Too.
Take advantage of the audio sample. You may find that John Hong is the perfect narrator for your listening enjoyment.

This is a story of an Omega Defence Attorney Doug Morrison who tries to prove his father has been wrongly convicted as a serial killer. Ray Langer is the Alpha detective who put together the case against the convicted man. When Doug brings new evidence to the table, the two men work together to find out the truth in the case and capture the killer still at large. And if they happen to become mates and get pregnant in the process... well that only makes this fun story even better. The characters are interesting and likeable. The story fun - with suspense, mystery, steam and romance. All together an entertaining tale.
John Hong narrates this story. There seemed to be a few editing issues where things weren't smooth. The voice is pleasant sounding.
