About this listen

Kathryn Shay spent five years riding fire trucks with a large city fire department, eating in their firehouses and interviewing hundreds of America's Bravest. Read the novels that resulted from her intense relationship with firefighters!

Fire Chief Noah Callahan can’t understand what’s going on his department. A series of arson fires, broken equipment and unusual accidents plague the firefighters. It’s no surprise when he comes under investigation by Captain Eve Woodward from the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. She arrives in Hidden Cove believing he’s guilty, but soon begins to respect, understand and care about this very good man. A second storyline follows hotshot Zach Malvaso as he befriends, then falls in love with tough, aloof firefighter Casey Brennan. Together Casey and Zach confront their demons and alter the course of their lives.

Loving this series!

I love that this series focuses on specific events while not narrowing in on one specific couple. It is truly like following the entire town through the events and happenings, instead of most series that focus on what is happening to one couple and when you go to the next couple you realize the timelines overlapped and a large amount of the stories were going on at the same time.

What did you love best about On the Line?

I liked how there is a story line other than just the love story itself.

It makes me laugh when it discusses the insults and pranks that are played in firehouses.

Adventure with Romance

Where does On the Line rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Action enough to keep me interested with just a little relevant sex to keep the story real. I like a good story & usually go for the Murder Mystery or Thriller with lots of action & suspense but sometimes I want something slower & more like real life.

What other book might you compare On the Line to and why?

I have to say it, I really do BUT these books are very much like Harlequin Romances in a lot of ways. But, they have a twist as well. Good thing or they would just be another formulaic romance.

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

Jeffrey does a good job.

Any additional comments?

I've enjoyed the series so far. They're like Nevada Barr's Anna Pidgeon series in a way. A little law & order, a little romance, lots of adventure, mystery & intrigue without all the dirty words, guns & gore. A nice break from the ugly world in a lot of ways & a bunch of nice characters to get to know.

stellar, captivating, enchanting - loved it!

I loved the narration as well as the story - as I did with "After the Fire". Interesting plot, romance and steamy situations are as lividly described as fire fighters at work. Definitely a 5 star audiobook.

On the Line

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. It has several really good story lines going on. It is great to catch up with the characters in the previous book and find out what is going on with them.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Noah. He was such a strong man with a lot going on in his life. He was honorable on his job and in his home life. He handled being accused wrongly on his job with grace and honor. He was so tender to Eve even though she was trying to ruin him. I wasn't crazy about her character just because she didn't think the fire department personnel should be upset because she was trying to put the chief in jail.My second favorite was Zack. He was trying so hard to prove he had changed and my heart broke that he couldn't save his marriage. I did not like Casey. She was so hateful for most of the story. Her sleeping with the other guy just made me furious.

Which scene was your favorite?

The boat scene at the end of the book when Noah and Eve got everything straightened out. The scenes with Zack, Casey and the children were fun.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I got really upset when Casey slept with a guy who was not Zack. The scene at the camp when all of the children were talking about their grief. Made me cry!

Any additional comments?

Loved this story. Going to start on the next one in the series!

Slow to start but got better

This book was slow to start, but the characters seemed real and weren't wishy-washy. They had depth.
