About this listen

Suzanne Brockmann's wildly popular Troubleshooters series showcases this master storyteller's rare gift for blending intense adventure with sensuous romance. And it all begins with The Unsung Hero, a heart-pounding tale of love that reveals hidden truths and brings two solitary people together against all odds.

After a near-fatal head injury, Navy SEAL lieutenant Tom Paoletti catches a glimpse of an international terrorist in his New England hometown. When he calls for help, the Navy dismisses the sighting as injury-induced imaginings. In a last-ditch effort to prevent disaster, Tom creates his own makeshift counterterrorism team, assembling his most loyal officers, two elderly war veterans, a couple of misfit teenagers, and Dr. Kelly Ashton. As the town's infamous bad boy, Tom was always in love with Kelly, a sweet "girl next door" who has grown into a remarkable woman. Now he has one final chance for happiness, one last chance to win her heart, and one desperate chance to save the day.

The book was great. Audiobook, not so much.

The male narrator ruined the audio book. He does not have the voice of a SEAL. Just No. I won't be purchasing any of this series of books with that narrator.

3 interconnected stories in 1 book.

I read this series a long time ago and listening to it this time around was just as good, although I couldn’t remember if the book was written before or after 9/11. Which it was written before, just barely, so it gives a very small amount of perspective to the military life before 9/11 happened. Things have changed a lot since this book was written, but not so much that you can’t still enjoy the story. More than one story in this book, my favorite part is with the father’s flashbacks in France. I have read all of the Troubleshooter books, and they only get better as the story progresses, unfortunately she drops the flashback storylines about book 6. Narrators are decent, but not great.

I gave this a three because I just dont know for s

What did you like best about The Unsung Hero? What did you like least?

How are you going to have a male and female narrator and have the woman do girl and boy voices? The man also does both girl and boy voices. This was poorly executed. I abandoned this book in the early stages due to the confusion. Please don't ever do that again, audible.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I don't know. Couldn't get through it due to annoying narrator confusion.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank ?

Their voices were fine, but a little arrangement management will solve the glaring problem of continuity.

Male reader is much better.

The female narrator takes odd pauses and doesn't seem to add much to the story. I truly enjoyed listening to the male narrator, even when he was reading female parts of the story.

Many excellent stories in one

This isn't my favorite of Brockmann's novels but it is still fantastic. I constantly find myself wavering between giving this 4 or 5 stars. Because it's not my favorite - I do wish it had more action to it (on a scale with her other Troubleshooters books, this one leans more heavily to romance than suspense), because there are a few troublesome bits in it.

On a "Brockmann scale" - it's a 4 in terms of weighing it against her other work. Ultimately though, I give it a 5. I own this in ebook & audiobook format. I've read/listened so many times I don't even bother trying to track it on Goodreads each time. Pretty much, that defines a 5 star read donchathink?

Unsung Hero is a LONG book. It's like getting (and enjoying) several stories that individually are compelling, interesting, engaging and weaved together to culminate in one awesome experience. We are introduced into the Troubleshooters world, meet characters we'll get to know and love for years to come (some take 5 books to get their HEA - I'm talking to you Sam & Alyssa), new love, old love, heartbreak, laughs, and tracking down a terrorist.

Note: I originally read this. Awesome. Then I found our library had the original audiobooks of the first 6 books (single narrators, various). Pretty good. THEN! Then the series was rerecorded in Dual Narration style with Patrick Lawlor & Melanie Ewbank. Fantastic! Amazing! I'm in LOVE with these narrations. I own them all. And if it were possible to wear out digital copies of something, I'd have done it by now.

I cannot say enough fabulous things about Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank. They are both stellar narrators - voices, accents, emotions, and giving each character their own unique sound. My only complaint is in regards to pacing/speed. Lawlor speaks at a much quicker pace than Ewbank (I think they recognized this at some point because I don't find it to be as big a disparity in later books). I found myself having to adjust narration speed between narrators for it to be more cohesive.

Interesting Story- but

The plot of the stories is really good- very interesting how the stories all come together, however the author's grasp of Military History is shockingly lacking. The United States Air Force did NOT exist during World War II. It wasn't formed until after the end of the war. Until then it was part of the US Army. It should have been referred to as the Army Air Force. That irritated me through the entire story. Also, her description of the Navy SEALs were also woefully inaccurate. Not sure when this book was published but this information is easily available through quick google searches.
